    Couldn't help myself...

Story of my life. ???? Great work on saving the iMac, though. That said, when you said it was your grandpa's, I suddenly felt really old!! We owned the 333MHz blueberry model, but the original Bondi Blue iMac is very cool indeed.

Homemade Mini Case for LC, P475, Q605

Just wanted to add my congratulations for a job well done, BMOW. It's a really cool project and I look forward to seeing where things go from here. The LC has always been near and dear to my heart. One thing that really makes me smile is the inclusion of your Retro USB in those pictures. I'm...

    LazarusNine's Acquisitions

So, I've started the process of cleaning the AEK. All keycaps removed and cleaned, 30 years of dust vacuumed, isopropyl alcohol scrubbed in. The housing and spacebar are currently cooking under a blacklight after a generous layering of peroxide cream for some retrobriting action. More photos to...

    Basilisk II SDL2 port

I'll be following this closely. Thanks for putting the effort in!

    LazarusNine's Acquisitions

Yes, I thought that was strange as well. It's an ANSI layout with a pound sign (£) on the '3'. I'm confused. Maybe they did that with the AEK before switching over to ISO for the AEKII? And yes, stupid Photobucket. I should never have put my faith in that site. Now I'm just hosting all of my...

    LazarusNine's Acquisitions

So, I've come across another machine. I actually bought this system for its Apple Extended Keyboard. I usually stick to 68k machines, but I've been branching out quite a lot recently, as this thread reveals! Anyway, I've never owned a G3 desktop and was pretty pleased this one came with the...

    Next acquisition...

Nice set up with the Mac TV there. I've got the black 5400. While the keyboard is in good condition (UK layout), the mouse crumbled when I took it apart to clean the inside. =(

Mac IIci blowing electrics (even after PSU recap)

Perhaps I'll have to pick your brain about this at some stage, as I'd have preferred to replace the PSU with ATX instead of buying a PSU from a 7100 (which has worked well). This was all after replacing all the caps in the original unit!

A Tale of Two Quadras: 950 and WGS 95

Ha. Yes. The mobile version didn't display his location. Interesting that there's a Bolton and Brampton so close to each other in both locations. People were so unoriginal back in the day when naming places...

A Tale of Two Quadras: 950 and WGS 95

Another person in NW England! Good to know I'm not alone out here. =P Those are fine examples of each machine. I've lusted after the 950 - and, let's be honest, the WGS - for quite some time.

    New Member, Old Mac SE

Yeah, this is pretty much me as well. Anyway, jefframsey, welcome to the forums. It's always nice to see others expanding the hobby. I won't repeat what others have said, but simply echo their suggestions to make cleaning the board a top priority. Simply wiping affected areas with a swab and...

Splendid example of the 145B. Thanks for keeping it alive! =)

    LazarusNine's Acquisitions

I'm with you, Vince. Even if the "i" refers to "integrated graphics", the logic of Apple's naming scheme quickly falls apart. As others have pointed out, the "v" series makes little sense and the follow-up product families demonstrate that Apple gave up on a logical approach to their sequential...

    LazarusNine's Acquisitions

My most recent acquisition: Macintosh IIci. I replaced the PSU (even after a recap, it was blowing the electrics in my house!). The logic board has been fully cleaned and recapped and I went through the trouble of cleaning the floppy drive and adding RAM; it's now at 20MB. I've lusted after the...

    LazarusNine's Acquisitions

So, a few members on another forum pointed me in the direction of an eBay listing for Newer Technology's PowerPump, a unique accelerator card that increases the clock speed of the 68040 CPU on Quadra 700s, 900s and 950s. It also increases the speed of a PPC 601 processor upgrade. I was going to...

Trying to fit a CF card into a Performa 5200

This is a real shot in the dark, but is your CF card labeled (or otherwise identified) as UDMA? From my experience (I have three of these setups in older Macs), the Mac can only ever see the card if it's a UDMA card. There's actually a decent resource for this over at LEM...

Mac IIci blowing electrics (even after PSU recap)

Yeah, I just yanked my Quadra 700 PSU and put it in the IIci. Everything worked fine. So, it's likely a short somewhere. I just spent about £15 on new capacitors for that PSU as well... Oh well. I might just source another PSU. Am I correct in thinking the 7100 PSU works in the IIci also? I've...

Mac IIci blowing electrics (even after PSU recap)

The mind boggles. Bought a Mac IIci. Plugged it in and turned it on and it blew the ground floor circuit in the house. Tried in different plugs. Same result. Tonight, I recapped the motherboard and PSU, switched the computer on and after a handful of seconds, it blew the electrics in the house...

Mac II Series vs Quadra 700

To be fair, my initial love affair with the Quadra 700 was because of Jurassic Park. Only since owning one have I appreciated all the other reasons it's probably my favourite Mac of ALL time. The tantalum capacitors are brilliant. No leaking and no annoying axials to deal with like with the...
