    Schrockwell's S3/30 Reloaded build

Socketing it should be standard procedure, really.

Backporting HFS+ to Mac OS 8.0 and earlier

You can leave the ptch resources in the system file since you’ve already applied them, just add those ptch ones to the enabler as well.

Did you copy the ptch resources into the enabler as I mentioned above?

    PBG3 Wallstreet- switching OS?

The limitation is with Open Firmware and applies to reading system files beyond the first 8GB of a drive (rather than partition). But my theory is that OW Macs booting OS 9.x and below use ATA drivers from the Toolbox which don’t have this limitation. New World doesn’t work since it can’t...

    PBG3 Wallstreet- switching OS?

I honestly think it’s a misconception for Old World in OS9, based on the testing I mentioned. I’m open to any evidence to the contrary, though.

    PBG3 Wallstreet- switching OS?

I’m not fully convinced about the limitation on Old World Macs under classic OS - my Beige G3 can boot off a partition that’s completely past the 8GB mark.

Backporting HFS+ to Mac OS 8.0 and earlier

Hard to give any definitive claim, but it seems to work as well as it does on my PowerBook 1400c with 7.6.1 (that is to say, just fine). Don’t know if the patched system folder can itself reside on an HFS+ volume, I haven’t tried. System 7.6 itself is very unstable on the iBook, that’s the...

    jmacz journey

I love that you've got more 500 series machines, I inexplicably want more of them too. Perhaps you could have a go at the 48MB mod on one of them? I still need to do a write up. But I'm strongly sceptical of your claim to have a 601 CPU card :P

Backporting HFS+ to Mac OS 8.0 and earlier

For anyone interested, I got this working on Mac OS 7.6 on CHRP on my iBook. Both of the ptch resources need to go into the System Enabler 356 file instead of the System file.

Which version of the OS are you looking to use, and are you on PPC or 68K?

    Powerbook 540c Whitewashed Screen

I'm struggling to find a good pic for you, I just have a close-up which I took for reference. I've noted them down as being 20v 100uF, and identified these as suitable replacements. They're OS-CONs, so replacement might not be necessary. The board with two caps is the early 820-0456-B revision.

Flashed ATI 9250 Crashing Beige G3 Minitower On Desktop

It should configure itself automatically, just make sure you use the XLR8 software. Download #3 on this page, V 3.5.0 for Mac OS 9. https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/machspeed-control-combo You could also just remove the G4, and put back the original G3 ZIF for testing purposes.

Flashed ATI 9250 Crashing Beige G3 Minitower On Desktop

Yes, you do, both for cache and AltiVec support. Use XLR8 MACh Speed Control. This is going to sound weird, but my own testing has shown me that the OS9 ATi drivers do not play very well with G4 upgrades in a Beige G3. I would get freezes both with Powerlogix software and if no software was...
