That may be true (never tested that theory) but I have a firewire DVD burner (BusLink case with LG Burner) that I use as a DVD reader. I have connected it to many different iMac G3s to install Tiger (350-500mhz models) and never had an issue with the iMac reading from the drive. Since he is...
I found that its best to find another PB 1400 with max ram rather then buying it separately. It is easier to find that way.
As for ethernet, the PCMCIA card is the easiest to find (and cheapest). The 1400 specific Ethernet card is very difficult to find and costly when it is available.
The RAM made it very worthwhile. It does take a while to boot, which I attributed to the RAM once I got it to boot properly. Maybe I can resurrect the drive but that is a project for later.
In the past week I have collected a few new items...some I have been really looking for.
New to my collection is a Powerbook Duo 280c with 22MB RAM and a 320MB HD, and a Powerbook Duo 230 with 12MB? and a 120MB HD (its not booting properly ATM).
The big thing is a Duo Dock II which is a...
Wallstreet & PDQ have ADB/SCSI and go from 233mhz to 300mhz.
Lombard has no ADB but does have USB and SCSI and is either 333mhz or 400mhz (400 has a hardware DVD decoder).
Pismo is 400-500mhz with firewire.
Hope that makes it easier!
Very nice pickup I'd say. I did own an original Macintosh myself, however I was in need of money to pay off a credit card and it was the least used that could generate the most extra cash. It needed some work with the eject mechanism of the floppy drive anyways.
I have a partly working...
I have a 10GB Toshiba drive in my Powerbook 1400c without any problems. It duel boots 8.6 and 9.1 with no issue on either end. I believe the current drive was pulled from a dead Sony laptop.
I think the 40GB issue has less to do with the size and more to do with the fact it is an ATA-5 unit...
There were very few ever made as the market for such an item was small back in the day.
Guide to LC PDS Video Cards
Low end mac has listed a few options but I do not see them being any better than the existing video system on the 6300CD. If you want better video, I assume you would have to...
I am busy working on this iMac G3 Rev A Tray Load. It boots up fine and a picture comes up but as soon as it starts to boot into the OS, it goes black. Now this does not happen all the time, just most. I have tried it from a hard drive with 10.3.9, a CD with 8.5, 9.0.4, 10.2, and 10.3. The...
When you plug in a ADB mouse into a running machine it slows the mouse response down. I've never figured out why but if you leave it plugged in and restart the machine it will correct the mouse speed issue.
I created an image using Disk Utility by way of the Restore function and used a USB hard drive. I do it all the time when I retore old macs. Its a little slow using USB 1.1 but it works and no extra software requred.
Do the following:
1. Run disk utility
2. Select the restore Tab.
