i defiantly would not 50% trust it, since it did that. if it still is alive and kicking thats cool that it still works ( but it seems like that can be its last leg) hard to tell what type of damage it caused. i just wouldn't rely on that machine for much of anything that is mission critical (...
you might be able to, it just might need the 12v mod ( a 12v feed to the 4th mounting point on the MDD's CPU in a DA) before it would work and maybe a mod to get the CPU to run at its rated speed ( since the MDD's system bus is 167mhz and the DA's system bus is 133mhz)
yea really, some ebay sellers are so rude and very (how can i say it) stupid.
but most of the times the sell will bend over backwards to please you.
just give him a negative and leave a nice little remark with it. and move on
yea a few days ago (Saturday or sunday) our computers at work went back a hour. so we had to manually set the correct time on it. i was getting ready to shut them down when i seen they was a hour behind the wall clocks in the store. we called our local time and temp to make sure what time it...
the newer video cards dont have OS 9 drivers so the card wont have accelerator functions , will be stuck at 640x480, so it will be mostly useless to use in OS9.
it would be sweet to some how hack a driver to make them supported under OS 9, but i think that would be like pissing in the wind
oh yea. a Mac that can boot O s9 will always boot OS 9 nomatter the hardware upgrades. the only thing is the video cards ( newer ones are not going to have support in OS 9)
very nice speed boost, over stock.
i will be getting a dual 7455 1.4ghz cpu upgrade and a 6800 GT video card and 1.5gb ram . but will post on each upgrade i add.
but it seems that the 6200 plus the upgrade gave a very nice result for you. definatly allot better results then you would have got...
are you going to use xbench 1.3 ??
i did mine, here is the result in almost stock config
http://db.xbench.com/merge.xhtml?doc2=246160
its allot faster then what i thought the system was going to be ( before i got it). once i get the upgrades i can only think on how much more faster its going...
i know that the HDD in my Performa 475 is 1.2gb and is formatted in one partition the whole size of the drive and works flawlessly. it runs system 7.6.1, the HDD is a quantum fireball. and have a external scsi LaCie CD RW burner. all work great
if you are not on dialup you can download a few demo's and see what it play's like. i think the halo demo has a timedemo you can use to see its performance. i know that with everything set to low - medium i get a average FPS of 15 - 25 FPS with my 533 with a Geforce2 MX.
you should have done some benchmarking with the stock video card still installed vs the flashed one to see how much of a difference it made. like using xbench, open mark, and a few games ( demo's like halo, UT 2K4, RTCW, and a few others) to see how much of a difference it made to real world things.
the slow system bus and memory of the Mac G4 systems would be the bottle neck keeping a quad G4 upgrade from performing like it could, but it would still be awesome to have and see what its limits can be. cause i would think even on a slow system /memory bus it would still result in a nice...
yea, it will help out. and will make a noticeable difference
what QE and CI do is offload those things to the GFX card and free up the cpu to do other things
the only way i can get OS X to install on my Beige G3 is by using the stock 24x cd drive. it boots instantly and installs flawlessly. if i use any other drive it wont boot or fails during copy.
i have seen what happens when you OC the system bus to 83mhz, yes you get a performance gain but that...
