    another SE/30 restoration

A SD extender will not work with the scsi2sd. I tried 3 different and nothing works. Others had no success too. A bluescsi works with an extender.

Just Bought a Classic II with a problem.

Yes, a recap should be done. Then check the voltages at the floppy port. Sometime the analog board needs some new components. Hopefully you do not see a bombed battery on the LB...

Mac Classic: Swap analog board with Classic II

If you turn pp1 to change the voltages, check both voltages (12 and 5 V). If 5V is low and you turn pp1, the 12V can raise to high and damage the board. Cleaning pp1 can be a good idea.

Mac Classic: Swap analog board with Classic II

Your 5V is too low with 4.37V (must have 4.85 to 5 V), 12V is ok. The Mac can´t boot with that. I would recap AB#2, perhaps the voltages are ok then. On #1 I would change all parts that I described before ((DP3 and DP4 (1N4148), TDA4605, CNY17G, IRFBC40). Did you check the solder joint of the...

Mac Classic: Swap analog board with Classic II

There is one fuse. For testing the classic must be switched on. I used the CNY17G-3 and it worked. The others I don´t know. I would start with measuring the voltages at the floppy port. Black to ground and red to 12 or 5V. Be carefull when working at the AB! There are high voltages! Discharge...

Mac Classic: Swap analog board with Classic II

First look at the power connector if there are broken solder joints. I had this on one of my classic AB. Are the fuses ok? A lot of things can be wrong with Classic analog boards (the two Diodes DP3 and DP4 (1N4148) are almost bad everytime, TDA4605, CNY17G, IRFBC40). TDA4605: Have you...

Mac System 7.0.1 and 7.5.3 floppy images

When I was new to the macintosh hobby, I used HFVExplorer to produce my first boot disks (1.44 MB). If I remember right, the disk images could be read in MiniVMac and other emulators. https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/hfvexplorer

    Classic II with checkerboard screen

Sometimes cleaning the Logicboard with IPA can solve the checkerboard problem. But you have to recap the LB and the AB as soon as possible. There can be a lot of problems if you wait to long. And the battery should be removed! There are tutorials on youtube for recapping macs: There are...

    revive a macintosh 512k

Why don´t you recap the analog board? After a recap, the 512k perhaps will work perfectly.

Well it used to work: 128k woes

A TL866II Plus Programmer is about 70 Euros. If you burn your own ROMs you can play with some extensions. https://www.bigmessowires.com/mac-rom-inator/ The rominator needs some soldering, but then you can use a ROM disk or an alternate start beep.

Well it used to work: 128k woes

ROMs can be burnt into Eproms. Here is an instruction for a Plus: https://www.instructables.com/Create-Macintosh-Plus-ROMs/ For a 128 27C256 Eproms could work. https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/mac-512k-error-code-014120.1539356/

Are you sure that the HDD is funcional? Old HDDs often fail after 30 years.

SCSI hard drive won't start due to low voltages (Color Classic)

Both should be recapped as soon as possible! Otherwise you can get damages at both, In your case I would start with the AB.

Is it worth repairing a Mac's external hard drive?

As a replacement for the HDD you can also use a BlueSCSI. I built 3 of them and they work fine.

Thingiverse.com https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3067337 https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1131419 I printed both and they were ok for me.
