    SCORE!!! Curb: PM G3 B&W!!!

Nice find! I have 2 B&Ws but only one is in working order (I stripped the other one for the most part). They really are great computers, especially for free, I got mine at the local college, curb scores are non-existent here AFAIK.

    Not rare but unusual thread.

Not exactly sure whether you'd call these unusual but here goes: -Original HP Vectra (PC Semi-compatible from 1985) -An e-Reader for my Gameboy advance (the card reader where you could tediously read a tiny program by scanning around 10 barcodes) -A still-functional (AFAIK) Game Genie for my...

    Couple little tidbits

Well they are small, have missing keys, and the one I have is hard to use as a hub since it requires excessive force to plug anything into it. Otherwise they aren't that bad, I'd just rather be using my pro keyboard.

    Couple little tidbits

Today I dropped by the local college with a friend and checked out the free computer stuff (for the *I've lost count* time) and got: -Farallon AAUI to BASE10 ethernet adapter (my second one) -Modem Port to female DB-9 serial. I'm really intrigued by this one, is this essentially a null modem...

my vision for 68k/ early ppc macs

Probably not, but whether anyone is going to code it is questionable. As for NouveAUX or whatever it is, let's make it. :)

A reasonable way to use a 68k as a jukebox?

Of course, otherwise I wouldn't attempt it. :)

A reasonable way to use a 68k as a jukebox?

This thread seems to have steered off-topic ::) . I'm not intending to hack a sound system out of Macs. My current "plan" consists of running MPD on a host machine, hooking up speakers to said host machine, and using a compact (probably an SE) to control it using an MPD client. Either that or...

I think he means that he was thinking the same thing.

A reasonable way to use a 68k as a jukebox?

Just realized that the latest versions of mpd support httpd streaming. I downloaded and compiled the latest version and am able to listen to the stream with WinAmp on another PC. I can stream in any bitrate I want. This should do fine, I think. :D

A reasonable way to use a 68k as a jukebox?

Don't you think it would likely be way too slow? A good majority of my MP3s are also >128kbps which would slow it down even more. Also, MpegDec would rule out my Compacts, but I guess they don't have very good speakers anyway. :-/

A reasonable way to use a 68k as a jukebox?

Cool. That might actually be more practical. I just realized that with mpd it would play all music on the server machine. Unless there is some way to stream the audio over as well (with a 68k).

A reasonable way to use a 68k as a jukebox?

I just stumbled upon http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/Client:M68kmpc while gathering information on the Music Player Daemon. While the link it gives is dead, there's probably a mirror somewhere on the internet. If you ran the mpd server on another machine and then networked the 68k to it, you'd have a...

IIRC we used to be able to put smilies in our sigs. Another case of "disable the source of a nonexistent problem," eh? xx(

Another compromise idea: Instead of the time limit imposing how long you have to make changes to your post, make it be how long you have before you can edit your post, and make it longer, like a few hours. That way mods will have time to hunt down "hit n' runs" before they are edited.

I have to agree with Scott and say that it was perfectly fine before the limit was imposed, but the admins didn't "leave it be," did they?
