Update: Ok so I reseated the ram as mentioned in my previous post. The system booted up well three times in a row after that, but that was probably just luck. This is because the next morning it was back to the old floppy with a question mark on it. I am beginning to think that the problem lies...
Well I went ahead and used rubbing alcohol to clean the ram and the contacts. I managed to removed three of the chips out of four. Two of these were thin boards, and one was a little thicker. The fourth one, which was also a thicker one, wouldn't budge. Should I try removing this one too? Oh and...
Thanks for the reply trash. Should I take the pencil-eraser method literally? Can the eraser be pink or white? Do I just rub it back and forth? Sorry about all the questions.
Two more things to update Spiceyokooko. First of all, the floppy disk that often shows up is definitely a question mark, never an X. Second of all, I am no computer expert, but I have an idea about what the problem might be. My quadra has 44mb of ram, as displayed by the "about this macintosh"...
Ok I am thinking you are right spiceyokooko. This is because nothing that is happening is consistent. Sometimes it will boot 10 times in a row perfectly, other times it refuses to at all. Sometimes I get that question mark floppy on boot up, and I even got this screen once (Will post a SIMILIAR...
Ok so my quadra 610 has been acting up a little the past few days. I managed to perform a complete install of OS 7.6.1. The problem is that my compute only manages to boot up one out of every few times. Sometimes it will boot up perfectly, and then the next few times I will get that question...
Thank you for your help as always MK. That is exactly what the problem was. Now I have to decide whether to try the install all over again with floppies tomorrow or wait for my cd caddies to arrive in the mail. At least now I know what the problem is. This time I'll use three floppies and leave...
Ok so i have decided to install 7.6.1 on my quadra 610. Since I don't have any cd caddies yet, I was forced to use the 19 =P floppy install. It was working great, each time I used a floppy it would ask to insert the next one. After the "Please insert Install 19" message was over, I stuck my...
You think these caddies would work?

Wow thanks BGoins, Never heard of that caddy thing, but it actually looks pretty cool. Guess its back to ebay, can I get just any caddy, or is there certain compatible ones for macs?
Okay my quadra arrived today and of course I have a bunch of questions for you guys. I am attaching some pictures of it that will help you guys know what I am talking about. Alright, so question number #1 is about ethernet. It says that it has an ethernet port, and I see that symbol that stands...
OK so i will finally be upgrading the ram in my SE tomorrow. I am letting it sit all night unplugged just in case. Ive read several guides on how to perform the upgrade, but the first step is always to discharge the CRT. This might be a stupid question but how do i do this?
P.S. Apparently some...
So i have decided on a quadra 610 for my summer project. I have already bought one online, but it will take about a week to get here. I bought it thinking that yay it has a full 68040 processor. Now after reading a little more about it, I find out that sure enough, there was a version of the...
Hey guys, just discovered this forum a few days ago and I'm already loving it. Im hoping that you could help me with a problem I am having with my g3's. Ok here goes... I am currently running os x 10.4.11 tiger on an imac g3 400mhz 768mb ram. This mac is connected to my wpa2 network through its...
In one guide about upgrading the ram in an SE, it mentions the need to clip a jumper cable that identifies what kind of ram is in the SE. Would this be necessary, and if so, how would i perform this?
As an alternative, would this ram be compatible in my SE?
