You can put System 6 on a PB 140 and PB 170. There was a special Japanese release (6.0.7.1J from memory) that supported them - probably because System 7 in Japanese was delayed? There are instructions on the web about how to cut and paste string resources to work with it in English.

I have never seen a badged one, and I presume a non-badged "Macintosh Plus ED" is no different to a standard "Macintosh Plus. :-)
Having been deeply immersed in a Macintosh saturated education sector in Australia right through the relevant period, I can only assume there's a good possibility...
OK - time to go to the source. Here's a note from Apple's Colour Classic Hardware Reference ( http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Developer_Notes/Macintosh_CPUs-68K_Desktop/Mac_Color_Classic.pdf ).

There are shareware/freeware apps out there for managing PRAM settings as well. You can use one to reset them to your desired values when you start up. Slightly annoying, but better than having to go into the control panel. On my list of things to write is a simple INIT that will set the...
Well my kids are 4 and 6, and they love using my macs - from the Plus to the iMac. This means I can set them up on a machine each while I work on my other machines, and my wife still counts it as child minding! :-)
Here's an old picture I have showing my Platinum Plus, Platinum 512Ke, Beige...
Have you tried a google image search for "Macintosh ED"? This page, for example certainly shows "Macintosh ED" on the front, and the machine looks pretty platinum to me - http://www.apple-classic.de/page2/page2.html
Well, according to the early mac serial number decoder, my 512Ke with serial number F737453M0001ED, was the 4797th manufactured during the 37th week of 1987 in Fremont, CA. Now, 37th week? After quick calculation I make that about halfway through September, so right at the very end of the...
I have a 512Ke that is clearly platinum. Can't check the serial number from work but if I remember when I get home, I will do so. It is badged on the back as a "Macintosh 512K", and (from memory) has model number M0001E. The badge on the front is also different - not inside a larger square...
You have a Colour Classic II??? Actually, if you are prepared to count a colour classic upgraded to a CCII rather than badged as one, the full set would not be too hard to acquire.
Yes - I remember that thread, and the outcome. :-(
The 128K upgrade is straightforward - you just put in the two 128K ROMs and an 800K drive. That had indeed been done to my machine, but I put 64K roms back in. Nothing is wrong with that, but there is clearly some issue with the drive...
