Mac 512k Floppy Drives won't inject

Thanks ClassicHasClass! I agree with you, that is one of my favorite scenes from the Star Trek movies. Brooklyn, you have a good point. I'll try to be extra careful with the innards of the floppy drive. :beige:

Mac 512k Floppy Drives won't inject

Thanks for the tips macman142! I saw a page on the 68kmla wiki about cleaning and lubbing the drive. I will give that a try on the external when I get some free time. I'll take some photos and upload it to flickr and put the link into the thread!

Mac 512k Floppy Drives won't inject

Just bought a 512k off of craigslist for $25. Pretty complete, with ImageWriter I, external 400k floppy drive, MS Flight Sim, Mac Paint and Mac Word, docs, etc... The machine itself is in great shape, except for being a tad dusty. It boots up happily to the question mark screen, but I cannot...

Powerbook 5300 Video update card for 2$

Ooh awesome find! I bought one of those off ebay, i think for $20 NIB. its a great card, I appciate the 16 bit video and ethernet. I think the MV16-EN is also compatible with the 190. Might pick one up for my 190 too!

    PowerBook Duo battery replacement

Did anyone figure out what the 3 middle leads do? I got curious myself and set up a little experiment with a Type 1 and Type 3 Battery. The results seem to suggest that the pin closest to the positive terminal is for measuring the temperature of the battery (to keep it from overcharging and...

    I have a sad Powerbook 140

i got the LCD isolated away from the rest of the display unit (the housing, backlight) so I could get access to the capacitors. Tried taking some pictures in case anyone else is doing this too. There are 6 of the smaller capacitors, which read: e 3.3 35 and 3 more that read: i 3.3 35 my...

    I have a sad Powerbook 140

Oh on closer inspection of the capacitors on the back, I do notice some corrosion around the terminals of the smaller ones. I'll have to figure out how to get them out, clean the board and install new ones. I did clean off the gunk though on the front ones. Hopefully it won't damage things :)

    I have a sad Powerbook 140

I'm guessing my PowerBook 140 is having a similar screen issue. Prior to today, when I would boot it up (cold start) the screen would be really dark, then would come to the regular contrast after warming up for a few minutes. Now It gets immediately washed out when I boot it up. Are the...

The end of a PB170 LCD?

I think backlight is going on my 170 or maybe one of the various boards associated with the display. The LCD works perfectly, but the backlight is now a dim amber. Maybe I could do a LED backlight instead!

    Wireless project comming up...

I've actually been thinking the same thing for a while. MacIP tunnels TCP/IP by encapsulating the TCP/IP package in an Appletalk package. Sort of like the GatorBox. I'm thinking a phonenet sized adapter, serial on one end, ethernet on the other, that (hopefully) could run of the power on the...

    PowerBook 190: Underrated Classic?

Unfortunately not, the 190 is like the 2300c (or 5300c with 512k video ram) where it switches the resolution when the color change occurs. But perhaps there might be some third party software that switched the resolution, like screen squeeze? I'll look into that...

    PowerBook 190: Underrated Classic?

The whole screen went solid gray, the black and white checkered pattern. The machine still responded to mouse and keyboard input, but would not display any output until I changed it back to 256 colors (or less).

    PowerBook 190: Underrated Classic?

I purchased the screen form a 5300ce to swap onto my 5300c (it has 1mb vram, so it can run the 800x600 at thousands of colors). I swapped the 640x480 active matrix screen onto the 190cs and it worked great. With 512k vram, I can display 256 colors at 640x480 and thousands at 640x400. I thought...

Portable wavy screen and sleep issues

Is the flickering still a problem? I find on my portable, if the contrast is set to some value other than the min or maximum, the screen flickers. I thought it was the screen alternating between two contrast levels to create the desired level. Setting the max or min contrast makes the flickering...

    Duo Dock "Gemini"

I was taking apart my old Duo Dock 1 the other day when I remembered that the PCB board says "Gemini" where the AAUI connecter would go. Is this true on all duo dock 1's? I thought it was unusual that Apple would put the codename in a production unit.

    recelling Duo battery

    >_<; *rubs bruise on head* I'll do some more sleuthing around the net. I've seen discussions on recelling other batteries but not the Duo in particular. Though I did see a post about the duo battery on this site but it was just a mention about it.
