USB PCI Card into TAM running System 7.6.1

I thought there was a very early set of USB drivers for 8.1. IIRC the original iMac shipped with 8.1. John

Twice the Power, None of the Price.

Bizzle, Would you have anything in a Core2Duo Socket M available for someone in NJ? :-) John

9 GB 50-pin internal SCSI drives

I think it's a case of capacity exceeding a certain size around the same time that an interface was obsoleted in favor of a newer, faster one. In this case, I think 50 pin narrow SCSI was largely being replaced by 68-pin Ultra SCSI about the same time that 9gb became a reasonable amount of...

kvanderlaag tries to buy a B&W G3 - hilarity ensues

Actually, 8.6 is the minimum for a B&W (possibly 8.5 with an enabler). A fact that I learned all too well with my first B&W which would not install 9.1 without a firmware update while I only had 8.5 and 9.1 retail CDs. BTW, can you still get 256 DIMMS that cheap? John

    G3 Redundancy problem

IIRC, Jaguar will run natively on a Beige G3 without having to use XPostFacto. MS Office 2004 claims to run on a minimum of 10.2.8 with 256mb RAM.

which OS X for my iMac G3

What about Camino 1.6, particularly a G3-optimized build? iCab 4.8 32-bit (latest version) will also run on 10.3.9 and above. As for OS recommendation, there is a lot to be said for a maxing the memory and installing Tiger. Out of curiousity, what is the video on your iMac?

    A curbed computer gem!

Really? On a PC, they tend to be horrendous. Lots of disconnects, etc.

    The TAM and OS X

If you're talking about BootX, then, no, it doesn't need its own partition. Instead, it runs as an extension under the classic Mac OS and offers an option to continue the MacOS boot or to boot under Linux. It's not too hard to set up, basically you copy the kernel and ramdisk files for linux to...

PowerMac G3 - First of the Last.

Perhaps, but overclocking the existing CPU and/or installing a replacement is trivial. If you adjust the jumpers, the existing 233 should overclock to 266 and, possibly 300. My own Beige has a 350 chip from a B&W and is overclocked to 400mhz.

    Pallet-o-G4s (and more!)

John, Just wondering if you had any more chance to check the version on the Sawtooth motherboards? Thanks...

    Pallet-o-G4s (and more!)

The definitive answer would be to run the PowerLogix UniNorth version checker http://www.powerlogix.com/downloads/UniNorthASICChecker.sit, though it *should* be safe to assume that a Rev. 2 Sawtooth board (p/n 820-1094-A) has the later version of the chip. Thanks... John

    Pallet-o-G4s (and more!)

If you end up parting out the low-end ones, I'd be interested in talking about a Stealth Serial port and a Rev. 2 Sawtooth motherboard (I currently have the Uni-N version that won't support dual procs). John

    G-4 for my Pismo . . .

I think that it is the last in-production G4 upgrade for the Pismo. 550mhz seems to be as fast as the G4 upgrades went. There were some higher speed G3 upgrades from Powerlogix, but there are some reports of heat issues. John

    Pismooooooooooooo!!

Is that with or without pushing the button? The lights should be about the same as on the WallStreet. When the laptop is charging from a completely dead state, the single light will flash, eventually going solid, finally followed by the other lights in progression. If you only see the flashing...

    G3 400 vs G4 450 -- Which one did he take home?

Personally, I'm from the school that both were overpriced in the first place, unless this was an ebay auction and the price included shipping. As for the 128mb RAM and 6GB disk in the G3, I find it hard to consider either as a determining factor as both are so small/inexpensive as to be...

    Daynaport SCSI/Link-T

FYI, it's been a while since I used one, but I seem to recall that you *May* have to do a custom install to get the SCSI/Link driver. (It should be an option early in the install.) John

How best to sell a couple of G3s?

That what I was thinking. It's actually the reason it took me so long to get the Sawtooth... I had been pricing cheap G4's on ebay for a while, but couldn't see the costs of even a $0.99 one after shipping. Thanks... John

How best to sell a couple of G3s?

Since getting a Sawtooth G4 recently and seeing some spousal concern, I'm realizing that it's time to thin the herd a bit. Basically, I think I need to get rid of a B&W which has been upgraded to a G4/400 and a Beige G3/400 desktop. I basically have two problems: 1) where to sell them and...

    $15 QuickSilver

Wow... and I thought I was doing good getting a 400mhz Sawtooth at TCF for that price. Congrats on the great deal. John

    Toshiba Portégé subnote

Or split the difference and go Win9x+BasiliskII. That's actually my personal favorite if only because I can get networking working. (OTOH, I can't seem to find a version of the SheepNet driver that builds with recent Linux kernels.) John
