Couple of questions:
1.What OS between 7.5.3 and 8.6 would be best for a mailserver?
2. If the system is clean, no bad caps (WOW!), good strong power supply, and no issues, should I be able to run this 24/7 as a mail server?
I am looking at bumping it to 128mb, but even dimm's are pricey. Probably bump the VRAM up to 4mb. Using a 14" magnavox monitor on it now, seems to run smoothly. Pulled a few apps off mac garden and so far so good. Need to find a serial cable and tie it into my Q605. And get a new PRAM battery!
Got it for the amazingly low price of $15 with the AppleVision 1710 Monitor (DOA). But the system works.
Specs:
120 mHz 601
64 MB DIMM 168pin
1.2gb HD
8x CD ROM
1mb VRAM (BOO!)
Running 7.6.1
Internet works on it nicely (Netscape 4.something)
The next questions is, what should I do with...
LC - 6.08 or 7.1.1 (Depends on my mood)
Q605 - 7.6.1
Q610 - 7.6.1
I decided to part out the Q610 so I can run my Q605, almost the same system performance wise. (605 has the full 040)
It is a micronet/syquest... No parity option on it that I can tell, I know that doesn't mean anything. But since I have 2 LC's with NO hd's or fd's I would like to use it to boot... The Quadra is my only option on that one.
The bad part is that I have no other external drive to test on the 610... I know the drive is ok, because it will boot my LC and LC475 when I have a "boot" cartridge in it.
I have an external Micronet Sysquest 88mb removable drive in pristine condition. Works fine on my LC's. I plug it up to the Quadra and it just sits there, the internal HD doesn't boot, the Ext just sits there... xx(
Steps taken so far:
Board, Freshly Re-Capped and washed, No bad traces or...
Ok well it is not the power supply, tested it and it checks out fine. No issue from floppy... (No CD rom in this one) Should I zap the pram or just start digging til I find the one that is causing the issue? And I should mention this occurs before I ever even see the MAC OS screen.
OK I couldn't find anything on this topic, or not close at least. I have a Centris 610 with the Quadra 610 MB upgrade (16mb ram, 512K Vram, 500mb HDD, System 7.6) :approve: . When I power it on, I get the happy chimes, a happy mac, hard drive starts pulling data then it reboots 5-10 seconds...
