The continued joys of knowing a computer recycler. Since we've got the same computer repair class, he normally brings in different types of computers he plucked from schools all around the state. Just the other day he brought in an iBook, remembering the rule I told him about anything with an...
I'll have to be careful and check to see how the processor lines up then. I would have overlooked that if I wasn't being careful. :O
Well, right now my sister is content with the 400MHz running Tiger. I guess for now I'll focus on my goal of saving for a new Intel iMac... And maybe a Lisa or...
Not entirely sure about the programs. My Classic was running System 6, but its SCSI chip is fried... So.. No good there..
When it comes to the marks, I've heard that magic erasers work. If not, maybe a little rubbing alcohol. You wanna be careful if you use chemicals since it might not be too...
I've only found mentions of the firmware hack for G3 iMacs. So far I've found the hack for eMacs, G4, and G5 iMacs only.
Also on a side note, would a down converter from a 400MHz board with a 500MHz or 600MHz board? I don't think it would since the components appear only slightly different, but...
After a little research I realized that. I also heard about a firmware hack that's supposed to allow fir an extended desktop on G3 iMacs. I did some searching, but I only found mention of it. No downloads or how-to. It's almost like it's some sort of iMac legend
I connected them via ethernet and turned on TCP/IP File Sharing on the iMac.
Once I transfered the file and figured out the instructions (nowhere did it say I had to press and hold the power button while holding the Programmer's Button), I did the firmware update. After two tries, I got OS X...
I hate making multiple posts :-/ Can't seem to edit the previous one now.
Update:
It wouldn't start with the 500MHz board. Popped the 400MHz back in and not a single problem.
Now I'm getting issues when trying to move over the firmware update. The iMac can't use my jumpdrive for some...
Pop in the old board and drive....
And it works! So the PAV board IS GOOD.
New board, old drive:
No good. Light by the data port for the HDD and CD Drive turns on.
I also took the opportunity to test the 500MHz board I had laying around and it works as well, though the power light stays...
Alright. Just a little thought I had. Maybe the voltages would've worked out...
I'm gonna work on swapping back to the old board and hard drive right now. I don't have anything else to do at the moment, so.... Lets hope this goes well :-/
So far my luck has been quite poor with the G3 iMacs...
I can't seem to get it to forfeit my OS X Tiger CD....
I'm going to try and place the old board back in, along with the old hard drive and see if it still works. If not, I'll assume the PAV board is shot.
Would it work if I pulled a PAV...
Alright. I'll go hunt down the Firmware update on the Apple site.
It has a VGA output, but it doesn't display anything on this Dell LCD monitor :-/ I hope the PAV board isn't shot...
The power light doesn't come on at all. Sometimes I can hear the hard drive spinning....
It was running just fine last night. I had no problems with this iMac prior (other than the power button being a little difficult to press) to swapping the boards. :-/ I don't have anymore slot-loaders...
Now it won't turn on at all xx( Press the power button and there's a static buildup on the CRT and that's it. I can hear electricity going through it, but nothing happens. The power light doesn't even come on...
If I can get it to switch on, I'll follow those steps.
My sister's B&W Powermac went completely bonkers, so I handed over my Ruby iMac.
Originally it ran just fine with 400MHz, 128MB RAM, and OS 9 (Japanese), but since my sister isn't too good at reading Japanese and wanted all of her data from her Powermac, I thought I would take the hard...
Something could be causing the Airport Card to become loose over time. :-/ I know I get that problem frequently with USB slots, but it's kinda odd to have that problem on an internal component....
Maybe the slot itself is a little worn out?
I don't have a USB cable for the phone....
But I managed to get it working :) As a matter of fact, I'm making this post from my eMac.
Turns out it was the wrong script and the connection settings. taniwah.org.uk has tons of scripts. I used the Generic 3G Script (Generic 3G CID1), set the...
My brother managed to get internet on his laptop (Windows 7) using a Bluetooth adapter and his 3G enabled cellphone.
What his laptop does, I'm sure my eMac can do better. I plug in the USB adapter, pair it to his phone, dial, and then...! Nothing! I try messing with the settings and can't seem...
I'm just assuming it's the flyback right now. Majority of the sites I dug through point the snapping and eventual death from the transformer failing. I'll test it soon, and hopefully it will be a quick fix. If not, I pulled out all three boards and will test every inch of it.
I might actually...
Well darn... I just got around to opening the 21" display. I removed all the boards and looked them over. Everything looks to be in order, but I still need to test it with a multimeter (which I lack until the fall semester at my school starts) :( maybe I could find replacement boards...
