    Prototype PowerBook 550 advice

well done..nice! the display brightness and contrast also look quite good.. nice to see one of those rare 550 birds in working condition. the slightly bigger screen of the 550c is nice. the brighter grey plastics color scheme, yes it looks more like the 520/540..if the original state isnt the...

    Powerbook 3400c CD-ROM Drive

I just disassembled the old drive of my junk 3400c, the CD seems very different from the 1400, more squarish https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/powerbook-1400-cd-rom.31498/#post-462440

Macintosh 512K painted black - paint stripping options?

I wouldnt try out any hard chemicals on that old vintage brittle plastics..the weakening is much worse. If I wanted to restore this I would respray it with a vintage white spray color. And before that I would check how good that old black spray job was done.. meaning, looking for color run...

    PowerBook 540c black coffee edition

I dont think that would make a big difference, as long as it isnt slower than 70ns..I had my 540c board populated with chips of this funky looking ram stick..I chose this because it had slim type chips. they are now mixed, 2100 AT-6 and 2100 ALLT-7. here 32mB reference boards

    PowerBook 1400 Hinge Fix Shim

well, make sure the the shim sits correctly, otherwise alignment wont work. I marked the position of the old standoff holes with a silver marker before, so I was sure the new holes wouldnt be off. Then glue it down. Then I just put the brass standoffs on a hot soldering iron for 5 seconds and...

    PowerBook 1400 Hinge Fix Shim

can you clarify what you mean exactly? is your question if the brass screw inserts are fully sunk into its correponding holes, touching the actual back of the display housing?Just compare how deep they are now, thats the height/position they need to be afterwards, otherwise the screws cant reach...

Can't Choose Mac OS 8 System Startup On PB1400c

I had similar boot problems tinkering with just installing extensions of the 3com Etherlink III card on my 1400c..as soon as the drivers were installed it just wouldnt boot into 9.1 anymore just straight into the second 8.5 partition. I then learned that to always have a backup copy of the...

550MHz G4 PowerBook (Pismo vs Titanium)

hm, I also had the 550Mhz Ti model, I thought they actually had a PowerPC 7440 with 256k backside Cache..but I also noticed they are quite slow.and the Ti's in general heat up quite a bit. And this would be your Pismo upgrade card, Daystar/XLR8 MACh Speed G4 550? interesting, wasnt cheap I guess.

alternatives for WPA2 networking under OS9

well, thats the first solution I would try. What iBook G3 is it, Clamshell or white? Both have USB1.1, so a USB wifi stick should work under Tiger. Edimax ew-7811un USB Wi-Fi adapter, the first generation model of it will do WPA2.

alternatives for WPA2 networking under OS9

I wonder how secure a MAC address filter network actually is..I mean its a bit annoying setting that up as you would have to put in all your devices, phone, tablets, desktops, portables..but should be better than WEP.
