your price is about the same in canada : must be the currency exchange from us$ to CDN$ albeit these days its close to being equal
when i asked my apple tech guy about the price difference between usb drives and firewire drives he noted as best as i understood that it's something to do about...
Easy for you to say: just kidding!!!!!
i now see that is exactly what happened when i walked the USB flash drive formatted by an intel version of apple disk utility over to the OS 9 apple disk utility in the P6360 : the system drives were totally different.
And after all these years...
Thanks for the clarification.
As noted in my posting above i never even considered the fact that a OS 9 driver should be embedded in the flash drive to allow it to be used in any mac.
I just started to use the flash drive in my Peforma6360 ( now that it has USB ports ) and then carry it over...
Excellent question.
I don't think that choice is there on an intel mac running Leo and so it never even crossed my mind.
That's why i depend on you gurus here to get me out of trouble.
I don't understand which for me is not uncommon.
When i used a (external) FireWire DVD drive the video playback of a commercial DVD movie was smoooooooth.
When i used the same FW DVD drive running in USB mode the same DVD movie video playback was jjjjeeeetttterrry.
Then tried a USB only DVD...
good point.
Actually both sticks are 4 GB each and the P6360 does have that extension.
I have both sticks plugged and mounted with no problems other then my curiosity as to why the formatting done by apple's disk utility, OS X version, would be different from the drive setup as done by apple's...
A real puzzler.
Have you tried a startup using the DVD installer for that iMac to determine if it makes the same "sound" at startup running the DVD driver ?
In my way reasoning, the above "test" would show me that this sound may be coming from the DVD drive/mechanizim and not the internal...
I have an QS G4 ( 933 MHz) with two internal hard drives.
Drive two is dedicated to Leo.
Drive one ( original ) is dedicated to Audio/Video storage with a copy of OS 9.2.2 that was already installed when i purchased this mac. After purchasing this Mac i installed several midi/audio programmes...
I wanted to install an internal DVD burner in my 8500/SonnetG3 but realized it was a huge hassle ( for me ) to scsi/ide/converter or what ever had to be done and much beyond my technical skills which is really limited to replacing batteries and plugging in PCI cards.
I ended up purchasing an LG...
When I plugged in a USB flash drive in the USB port of my Performa 6360 ( OS 9.1 ) it wanted to format the flash drive before i could use it. Fine. Format away.
Then i wanted to use another ( a second USB flash drive ) to hold totally different data but i formatted that USB flash drive...
Now you've got me confused which is not hard on any day of the year. Today is Saturday 2010 right ?
I thought the heading of my post was can 8500 do 8 . Not sure where you saw "7".
Or, is there another post talking about 7 ?
However, is there a apple update after 8.5 ( not meaning update 9 )...
Perhaps i missed receiving a reply. Do you not want an original floppy key as a back up. All the authorizations are on my authorization key disk i could mail to you. MOTU was very generous in those days and would mail out a authorization disk if you asked for a replacement.
However if you do...
My problem was solved by my apple tech guy.
I am so embarrassed i will whisper what i did wrong
within half a second the tech guy noticed by simply looking at the rear of the computer that the card was not seated. When i removed the right angled connection from the board to make it easier...
Before i go spending retirement money we don't have ( the wifey is already furious about this project on an old machine as she sezs ) do you guys think that perhaps resetting the CUDA switch may help wake up the computer to the fact that there is a USB PCI card installed ?
And if it would...
Well Buickguy if you want i could mail out the floppy authorization to you in exchange for a Buick ( no just kidding ! ).
Send me a PM to confirm you still want the floppy key and your address: OK ?
et oui c'est bon ?
just to get this thru my thik head:
just launch the terminal and copy paste df - h into terminal and hit enter or return ?
Excuse me I'm just beginner to terminal ( the name terminal scares the hhhhhhhh out of me ) and i just don't fully understand how to use the terminal language
Could you kindly give the terminal text ( so that i could just copy/paste ) ? And, what exactly does that actually do ?
I'm terminally illiterate so i sure require a lot of help with terminal.
Perfect.
I've stopped using the OS 9 hard drive ( the other drive has Tiger ) after upgrading from OS 8.6 to OS 9 only because OS 9 would not get along with many of my audio/midi programmes i did not have the know how to revert to 8.6.
Now that i have a better idea of how i will install 8.6.
