Install Linux on my Performa 6400

That means your root=/dev/xxx is not pointing to the correct partition. Start with the # at 1 and go up from there. You should eventually hit the right partition. (Or give it the device you selected as root during installation)

    Leopard on 2002 800MHz eMac?

Not that you'd be youtubing at work ;)

    IDE Zip on Apple's B*O*R*K*E*D IDE implementation . . .

No, I'm using the one that replaces the floppy drive. I was pretty glad I bought it once I discovered the dead SCSI port.

*NIX and wear on a CF drive

I've had Tiger thrash a CF card with VM so bad the partition corrupted. I've had no such problems in Linux.

    IDE Zip on Apple's B*O*R*K*E*D IDE implementation . . .

I agree with Bunsen. My 190 does the same thing; it won't see the drive unless it boots with a formatted disk in it.

    Leopard on 2002 800MHz eMac?

One of Leopard's few selling points over Tiger is iTunes.

    Hypothetical question (OS9 and WPA)

I do the same thing with a Netgear WNCE2001 on my WS and Duos.

    Free B&W G3

Yah, time servers have been wonky in Mac OS for me too. I had to set my WS to the Europe time server for it to work.

    My top Pick's (To Collect) - 68K Macintosh Powerbook's

Passive matrix used to irritate me to no end, but several days of setting up a 190 for my sister and the accompanying ZIP 100 disk shuffling of files back and forth has gotten me well acclimated to the blurry little beasts.

    Leopard on 2002 800MHz eMac?

TenFourKit, TenFourFox, and Omniweb to name a few.

    The 5300c lives!

How does the cs screen compare the c screen in terms of image quality?

TenFourFox on Intel OS X 10.4

Are you using the G3 version?

Install Linux on my Performa 6400

I'm fairly certain there are no other loaders. What error message did you receive? (Pictures are worth a thousand words.)

This is an FPU for ... what?

I've been trying for a while to get a Linux running on a full floating '030 and have had no luck. Hats off to you if you can manage it on an '020.

Install Linux on my Performa 6400

Which installer did you try? The alternate should get through ok on 40MB. I would do a netinstall using the mini.iso at http://d-i.debian.org/daily-images/powerpc/daily/powerpc/netboot/

    Government auctions are cool!

With enough RAM (as yours has) the upper end G3 iMacs do pretty well with X. The only downside is the older Gx chipset and their lack of acceleration issues under X. I'm guessing it just needs a fresh paving with 9 or your choice of X

Install Linux on my Performa 6400

DOH! Should have looked in your sig... Well, you can still run Debian, just not X... If you do get it installed, here is how to prevent GDM and X from autoloading.

    Make a PowerBook 5300 or 190?

Now you've got me wondering about my 5300ce screen on the 190. }:) With both 540c's dead until I replace their inverter boards, I'd be using the 190 except for that passive-matrix screen. Maybe I should grab a scrap 5300c somewhere to let the 190 see the rainbow.

Install Linux on my Performa 6400

Yes, that pretty much covers it. That article is how I got MintPPC installed on my Wallstreet. I've been meaning to write an easier to use how-to-for-oldworlds for MintPPC for like... a year now. :I The bootstrap partition is part of using yaboot. How much ram do you have? If its the stock...

Install Linux on my Performa 6400

By Ubuntu's definition no Linux *runs* on an Old World. Linux runs on New Worlds via a bootstrap partition and Old Worlds via BootX. Both Debian and Ubuntu will run on Old Worlds. BootX is a program that runs from within the Mac OS and you supply the arguments for where the kernel and root are...
