Use it to run old software and access files from old computers people need recovered. I'm certainly not trying to use the computer for any modern, useful task. And I have no idea what speed any of the chips are.
It is sluggish but I don't think it's a RAM issue, I think it's more of a "200 MHz" issue. I wasn't able to find any 128 GB DIMMs. And I'm probably not going to buy any more RAM for this machine, what I have should be plenty for what little I'm actually going to do with it. All that said, you...
I recently got 256 MB of RAM for my old Mac, in the form of four 64 MB chips. The RAM I already had in there was in the form of two 16 MB chips and one 32 MB.
So I have two options. I can put 288 MB of interleaved RAM in this machine...
or I can put 320 MB of non-interleaved RAM in there. ...
I do believe I have 8 ports. What exactly are you searching for to find this old RAM? It doesn't seem to have any unique specs or 'name'. Can you find any 128 MB chips on ebay? If not, I'll grab some of these 64's.
I remember you used to be able to do a trick like this to get a 13" 1440x900 ibm panel (matte too I think) installed in the polycarbonate MacBooks. Pretty neat trick that I never got around to. But as for your question, I don't actually know anything about it, sorry.
Try with the 8.5 disk image (link in my sig).
Also you can skip the disk burning process if you can partition another volume on one of these Macs, then image the contents of the disk image to that. Doing that with these older Macs might be more of a hassle though, you can't add and delete...
Yup I got ccMail 6 there. I got it installed. But it won't let me do anything AT ALL without logging in. I'm only logging in to a local post office though, so I'm not sure what it's looking for. I asked the owner of these mail files if she used a username and password to open them, I haven't...
Usually you can get away with running a mail server at home without problem. They usually only block outgoing port 25 connections, not incoming. So you can receive mail, and then relay all of your outgoing mail through your ISP's mail server. It will generally work, but because you don't have...
What keywords do you search for? This seems to be nameless memory. I've found a little but the ones I've found were not impressive prices. I almost freaked out when I saw 128 MB DIMMs on OWC for $7.50, but they are out of stock and they told me they're never getting any more.
Hah just realized I was getting you mixed up with the guy that actually suggested Netscape 2. I wish I knew how he was able to import ccmail with netscape 2 :D .
As for lotus notes, was there a classic Mac version?
I stand corrected, there IS an email client in Netscape 2! I see it and I can open it, but I haven't been able to find any import functions. Any ideas on that?
I don't mean to be a pain, but... Netscape added a browser, I assume you mean Netscape added an email client TO the browser. But I don't think they did that until version 4. And I tested version 4, it has no way to import mail that I could see.
Also None of the IE4.5 installers I've seen...
Wasn't Netscape 2 a browser only, not a "communicator" package? And did you me IE4.5? If so, I know that browser has no email component. Soooooo I'm not sure what you're talking about.
I don't need the Mac, but if you can find the application and send it to me, that would be awesome! Aside from that, what is "El-4.5"? I do know what netscape 2 is and I'll see if it can do anything.
I was able to install 7.5.3 then 7.5.5 update with a copy of the original system CD from macintoshgarden. My plan which has worked, is to run a copy of every version: 7.5.5, 7.6.1, 8.1, 8.6, 9.1. I do plan on running ideally 10.0 and 10.4 too but I don't have enough RAM for it yet. Technically I...
I've been toying with the idea of setting up my email on my old machine. I consider the 8.1 volume to be this Mac's main and primary OS. I'm wondering if there are any email clients that might be able to connect to a modern mail server? I tried eudora 5.1 but when I tried to set up my account...
