PowerBook 190cs: How Hard To Get A Battery?

Battery is next to impossible to get. And it is best to get the Nickel Cadium or Nickel Metal Hydride battery than the Lithium Ion battery. And they would be in poor/dead condition. At least with the Nickel Cadium, you night be able to replace the cells in the pack, but not with the other two.

    Apple 2e serial number

So your machine was taken off the assembly line and tested. 8431 would make it around Sept. 1984. Big difference from 8407 on the 6502 CPU, which would make it in March. When it was actually built who knows, but this gives you a date as to when it was on the assembly line and taken off to be...

    Well, the 520c died.

I know the Those Bricks on a Leash have screws on the 5x0 Powerbooks but just in case they are also sealed shut, look at this thread for an idea: https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/topic/26586-opening-a-powerbook-power-brick-revisited/

    Well, the 520c died.

Sounds like a Power Supply problem to me. Time to scratch your head and figure out how to open that power brick and replace those darn caps.

Kid Pix - Not Enough Memory?

Same here as Scott B. Single click the icon and File menu -> Get Info,  From there you can adjust the allocated memory size of KidPix. I set the "Preferred Memory" and "Max Memory" to be the same. Also, check the Mac's Memory Control Panel and have 32bit mode "on" if the machine has more...

Decisions, decisions... (How to allocate parts in 5x0 series)

I REPRESENT THAT REMARK!!!! (I am a happy 190 and 5300 Powerbook Owner...) On the subject of plastics an laptops, the best/worst I found is on IBM ThinkPad Series, 560 to be precise. Great little laptop, it is what I think the G3/G4 12in iBooks/PowerBooks came from; but one drop and though the...

Why iBook G4 A1133 left palm is so hot!

I have not figured out how to boot from USB either... :-/ Those that have, according to the posts on this forum, say that it is very slow, but they say that it works well enough to restore a Mac on. It is just that it is very slow.... taking all day for a job that should, at worst, take a...

Why iBook G4 A1133 left palm is so hot!

Every time I try to post here, the PC laptop (Yes, a PC!) Crashes! My G4 is down until I get a "new" hard drive for it, as it is too full... As I remember, the G4's ATA was a ATA100, while the G3's were a ATA66. I do have several with KingSpec PATA II SSDs and SanDisk 400X CF/IDE-SSDs in my G3...

    Macintosh II and system 7.0

Good Luck NickNick. I've had a IIcx with the Mac II Video Display card on System 6.07 and it displayed 256 colors on 640X480 (on an Apple RGB 13in Display); still have it but it needs a recap and other work on it as well. And it never gave me an issue with System 7.1. So I'm guessing that it is...

    SE30 Reset button malfunction help

Pin F-12 on the 68030 is the CPU's reset pin. You should be able to trace it to the switch directly, or to a logic chip to the switch. http://macfaq.org/img/pinouts/68030pga.gif Since there is a bar over the word 'RESET' that means that grounding the pin should activate the Reset Sequence...

    Bare-metal Mac project

This is interesting to say the least. But as I recall, the Mac boots up in Bitmapped Graphics Mode, under this bare metal idea to use text, you would have to reinvent the wheel in creating text screen windows. These routines are already in the Toolkit so that programmers do not have to reinvent...

    Apple 2e serial number

7th week in 1984. Depending on how the other chips average out, you're looking at a machine that is made somewhere between Feb. and March of 1984. Which Apple IIe is this since I notice you posted a couple of them up. EDIT: Not all Apples have this but above the power jack/port of the...

    Macintosh II and system 7.0

Installing System 7 on a Mac II is like installing System 7 on an LC (1), its doable but its going to be slow because its a 16MHz '020 with limited RAM and not a '030 with more RAM. System 7.0 is glitchy, install system Tune-Up like BadGoldEagle stated. Or install/upgrade to System 7.1. Glad...

Faint line moving down Macintosh SE display?

That sounds like Magnetic interference from an outside source as far as I can tell, like CMJones01 stated. When I was teaching Comp Lit to K-12 students, the labs literally had machines next to each other and the magnetic interference from one machine always affected the 2 or 3 next to it...

Decisions, decisions... (How to allocate parts in 5x0 series)

The PPC Upgrade never worked as intended. So it gave PPC Software accessibility - big deal. I had such a board in my Q950 and one of my former students had one in his LC 475, it actually ran slower than the 68K machine! There is a lot of 68K and 68k/PPC Fat software that will work on the 68K...

Decisions, decisions... (How to allocate parts in 5x0 series)

As  long as it boots up, and keyboard & mouse/trackpad works, I would not consider it crappy. I have a 520c (thanks to somebody on this forum, I think it was Englishsmith or somebody I bought some machines from). They said there was some cosmetic damage, but otherwise works. I never had a...
