OS 8.1, Startup Items and the Launcher

Launcher, as I remember it, was a control panel. Pat of the control panel parameters was to start at start up. Another parameter was where it's launch folder is at, this is where you put aliases of programs, folders and files into to limit the access to your machine. Launcher was great for...

    Saving the SE and Plus

Isopropyl Alcohol should be used as the last step in rinsing off the board. It wont neutralize the battery acid, which is what the water / baking soda is for, and ammonia / water to scrub off and clean. See the experts at...

    Problems Installing 7.5.3 on a 7300

You must be commended for that! Somebody give this man a medal! I seen something like this in the PC World, trying to get a Modern Windows OS to run on a 486 machine! LOL! True, they got Win 7 & 8 to run on a Pentium, but on a 486? DAMN!!!! If I find the link again, I'll post up!

    Apple 2c monitor

Guess what - that posted LCD Panel I have linked in the last past, works with the Apple IIc I have! Similar to the Apple IIc LCD Panel as things are stretched out wide, but about an inch off each side is bordered in so it is "squarer" in the image than the Apple LCD Panel. Plus, it is in color...

    Saving the SE and Plus

Chances are water caused that battery to go in this case. The Plus shows more water damage than the SE which has the battery damage (rust around the edges and heavily dirty ports), the SE also shows some water damage but the battery damage is more obvious than the water damage. If you can wash...

    Problems Installing 7.5.3 on a 7300

OSX on a 7300? You have the G3 CPU Upgrade for that? Even with 128mb, it will be disappointingly slow. 128mb I believe is the minimum for OSX on a G3, and at least a 500mhz CPU. As you know the rule - More is better (more RAM, more MHz.)

    Problems Installing 7.5.3 on a 7300

It is better to use 7.6 on a 7300 than 7.5.5. The 7.5's series were literally patched up as new Macs were made (like your 7300 not working on 7.5.3 but will on 7.5.5) and 7.6 does away with whose pesky System Enablers for a particular Mac. Footprint wise, 7.6 takes up less RAM space than 7.5.

    Saving the SE and Plus

This, as I can tell, is not battery damage, but flood damage. These two babies drowned! But if the chips survived, there is a way to clean them up and fix them. 1) Distilled Water/Ammonia Bath - slosh it about for a while to get most of it off. Then rinse with distilled water. Then with acetone...

    Converting Fullpaint Documents?

What program are you using? Any of the Adobe PhotoShop Series (from PS 2.5 to modern day CS6) can open them with either as 'File -> Open' or 'File -> Import' functions. The same with many other Mac Graphics programs. The FullPaint file format is either Bit Map or Pict file format, so any...

Why iBook G4 A1133 left palm is so hot!

Along those lines, you can use a PATA-SSD or a CF-to-IDE on the G4 and G3 iBooks and PowerBooks. 1/2 of my G3/G4 portable collection uses these SSD set ups. They do run cooler but it is still hot on that area, because the CPU and GPU Heatsink is also in that area, just above the hard drive...

    LC early boards ?

Ha! I too have an LC with those stickers on the EPROMs and on my Classic II (early board 4 chips ROM Set) as well. I would call it a prototype though it is not, perhaps they were used in testing OS and BIOS configurations on these sets and needed to ships them out as fast as possible? Don't know.

    Macintosh repair adventure

Flubbing is usually the circuit around the Flyblack, including the flyback transformer. C1 C2, Q1, D1, L1 (needs to be resoldered, not replaced, and by resoldering - desolder, clean it and put in new fresh solder and flux! Reflowing the old solder will crack and cause issues weeks later). Also...

    Apple 2c monitor

Has anyone tried hacking this or a similar LCD to the IIc/IIe/II+ composite output? These such units do have a composite input. I need to try it with my unit and see if it would work. The problem is the cables and power...

Mac Plus strange boot up issue

The Mac Plus and the Mac 512Ke are the same ROM image. Given that, if you can copy the ROM to fix the Plus, then by all means, do it. If I am correct, they are 64K ROMs so a 2564 or 2764 should work (I remember doing this with Dr. Levinson on upgrading old Macs long ago)... As for the floppy...

    Start-up problem Centris 650

The Deshtop file is on the "hard drive" not NVRAM. Back in the System 6 days, WDEF, MVir and several others infected the Desktop files on disks and spread infection passing an infected disk into clean systems. You got a copy of Disnifectant? Get is and run it through the system. To me it sounds...

    Apple 2e Typing problem

Lucky find! BTW - any keys "not typing?" Check the bottom of the keyboard for broken solder joints. Desolder, clean up and resolder with fresh solder.

    Apple 2e cassette port

You need to adjust the volume on cassette drive to an optimum level for the Apple to "hear it" start with 60% volume and work your war down to 25%; it is somewhere there.

    SE/30 Woes

*Raises finger* Uhmmm.... those RAM SIMMs with 2 or 4 chips on them are Iffy on the Mac II series. They may or may not work, depending on the machine. It may even work on one SE\30 but not on another. It is strange. Better to get the RAM SIMMs with 8 chips on them. Speed is another issues...
