Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch...
I could have sworn I read somewhere that openSUSE was dropping PPC support.
Ubuntu is community-maintained now, but it's very formidable (I recommend the Alternate Installation ISO regardless of architecture...better experience post-installation). I haven't...
Ubuntu 9.10 runs fantastic on all the PCs I've loaded it on, but I've also used the Alternate Installation disc and not the Live CD they default you to. I've always had problems with that version when I used it years ago and have avoided it since.
Also, if you're very fluent in Linux, then you...
The S-series from Yamaha is nice. I have the more inexpensive S08. 88 fully-weighted keys and some nice sounds built-in. Programmable too, but I haven't delved into that yet on this synth like I have with my Kawai K4. The S08 also makes a great MIDI controller.
I do have to say that for an Alpha 1, Haiku is in a quite impressive state. Especially when compared to something like ReactOS that's been around longer, Haiku is far more usable. I share the yearning for a BeBox, although I did use BeOS quite a bit on an old Toshiba laptop many years ago.
I had Haiku on my Eee for a bit, but since it had no support for the wireless I just wiped it with Ubuntu. Have you tried any legacy BeOS apps on it? Are you familiar with BeBits and the newer Haikuware for applications?
Wow, that's good to know! I actually have a Socket M Merom-based Core 2 Duo sitting in a box unused. Gonna have to find a good deal on a Core Solo mini now... }:)
If the bus is greater than 66, PC-66 RAM won't work. At least that's what I've always read. It's not recommended to use memory that's slower than your system bus. Anonymous Freak has it right.
I haven't tried installing any Linux on any Intel-based Mac just yet, but from what I've heard Ubuntu does use elilo as the boot loader on the Intel Macs. The only issues I've heard of recently were with recent MacBooks in regard to ACPI support.
Not sure if this is applicable in your situation, but I'm running Netatalk under Slackware 13 (upgraded from Slackware 12.1). After my upgrade, I noticed that I couldn't connect to my Slackware PC anymore from the Q650 running Mac OS 8.1. Apparently, the version of Netatalk under Slack 13...
I second this. Especially with Ubuntu, I've only had luck when burning at the lowest speed (even the next to lowest speed if I don't feel like waiting that long).
Not a Mac per se, but were it not for my wife I would probably still have my Motorola StarMax 4000 MT PCI Mac clone. Fantastic machine IMO. I was very pleased with it for the time I had it in use.
SeaMonkey 2.0 was also released, and the Mac version is just gorgeous! Also runs quite fast, but it seems that 10.4 is the minimal OS X supported.

Very nice modification. Shame that OS X won't support the resolution. Wonder if you can get a CRT tube that will got higher than 640x480 in the same dimensions.
