    AMD Athlon Tower

Nice! I have the kids set up with a 2.8 GHz Celeron D 335 and Ubuntu 8.04. They're pretty happy with it. :)

iMac G5 Software Disks (more info included, see bottom)

I don't know why I brought up an iMac G3.... ::) Anyways, if your Beige G3 tower has the Apple Ultra Wide SCSI PCI card, then you need to apply this firmware upgrade: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25176 I think for Panther you might have to use XPostFacto. Plus, the...

Nice rig! I'm still on an Athlon XP 2400+ here at home running Slack 12.1. :p

iMac G5 Software Disks (more info included, see bottom)

If you just want to install the applications from the iMac G5 system disc unto the iMac G3, give Pacifist a try (the link is in my previous post). If you're trying to install Tiger from the iMac G5 system discs, you won't be able to. As Cory5412 stated, those discs included with the Macs only...

    Performa and iTunes

For the record, I've noticed quite a bit of slowdown on my maxed our Quadra 650 whether I'm playing MP3s or streaming them from online using MpegDec. The architecture of the time wasn't capable of handling that much processing without a performance hit. And considering the limitations of the...

flashing a PC video card to mac?

Oh, how I long for the days of the 3dfx Voodoo cards. :p Incidentally, ATI has cards now that should work on both platforms without flashing, but I'm guessing this doesn't apply to our older Macs. ::)

iMac G5 Software Disks (more info included, see bottom)

If you just want the apps, use Pacifist. I've done this with older OS X 10.2 OEM discs in order to get AppleWorks to convert a document from .wrk to .doc and I was able to extract it from the install discs using Pacifist. http://www.charlessoft.com/

    Any fans of Doom I-III?

I've played all but Doom3. I am more partial to the Quake series, specifically II and 4 due to the storyline which I really like. I have yet to use the GNU/Linux binary with my Quake 4 discs, but I keep forgetting to when I actually have the opportunity. :p I do enjoy OpenArena, which is...

Can I fix an original Game Boy for the next RetroChallenge?

Technically, I don't see why not, but then I'm not involved with the RetroChallenge. But personally I think it counts. Anyone?

    500mhz AGP G4 for $50!

So true. While I wasn't that young when I longed for one of the Macintosh clones or the Quadra 650, I did want both so badly. Eventually I did come across a Quadra 650 (which I still own) and a StarMax 4000 (which I plan to reacquire from my father). I have yet to get that elusive IIgs that I...

    Power Mac G4 "Quicksilver" 733

Nice on the acquisition. Bummer on the PSU.

    500mhz AGP G4 for $50!

That is a nice Mac. I've actually got a 400 MHz one at work that I've upgraded to 1 GB of RAM that runs OS X and Ubuntu Hardy quite nicely. For very little nowadays, it's an awesome system.

    Quadra 650 nubus

I was under the impression that the CPUs beyond the original Pentium (I believe starting with the PPro) were a hybrid of both CISC and RISC methods. I remember going through this article back in 1999 from Ars Technica: http://arstechnica.com/cpu/4q99/risc-cisc/rvc-1.html Incidentally, there's...

Want to have a good laugh?

This doesn't sound as bad as the one regarding "THE FIRST COMPUTER EVAR" for $10Gs or so (it was an Apple IIe :p ). Heard it on RetroMacCast a few weeks ago.
