    PowerBook 190cs

When they are available, they go for about $13-15. You might check with Wegener Media. Their electronic part costs are high, but sometimes the trim part prices are not too bad. This part is I believe interchangeable with all the 5300c/5300cs/5300ce cases. This port door was a bad design - they...

HD Copy for Pismo - Easiest Way?

Thanks, everybody. I will give this a try soon. First, I need to score a 20gb or 40gb drive at a reasonable price. Since the clone source is small (~6gb) I may just buy a USB external case/enclosure, since the FireWire equipped ones seem to cost quite a bit more. ;)

    Lombard Case Crack

Haven't done anything with this yet...crack is stable. I'm not using that one much as I kept it with 9.2.2 and browsing using Classilla is an "occasional" thing with me. Both of my Lombards have cracks in the same places. I guess the CPU puts out more heat than the Pismos. I doubt they changed...

HD Copy for Pismo - Easiest Way?

I would like to bump up one of my Pismos from a 6 gb drive to a 20 or 40 gb drive. Rather than rebuilding the new drive up from scratch and going through all of the OS updates for 10.4.11, and other program loads, is there an easier way using the firewire ports to copy/clone to the existing...

    Any PB 1400 Battery Rebuilders?

I am thinking of investing in one good NiMH battery rebuild for my PB 1400 (but don't want to do it myself). The two aftermarket VST batteries that were my "better" batteries for a while now don't hold much charge, about 20-25 minutes at most. Anyone on here who would do that for hire? Or...

    G3 Lombard issues

If it is the processor daughtercard, those are sometimes fairly cheap on eBay. You could even bump it to a 400mhz card.

    Eudora and Hotmail

Has anyone gotten Eudora 6.2.4 settings to work successfully with a Hotmail or msn.com e-mail account? I am having some problems...

    PowerBook 190: Underrated Classic?

I'm fond of my 5300's, but with 1400c's and Pismo's as my usual writing machines, dont pull them out much anymore. Surprisingly robust little machines, though. The ones that went through the Apple refurb program hold up pretty well. I always enjoy the feel of the keyboard. I like the 1400 and...

    almost fully loaded PowerBook 1400

Congratulations! Yes, I have noticed these drying up on the 'bay. Mine are still working well, but I am always on the hunt for more RAM. If anyone knows of any places with affordable 32MB or 48MB cards, I'm all ears...

OS 9.2 - Memory to run well?

So far, so good. Seems to run 9.2.2 great with 256mb (I stuck in another 128 stick that I had on hand). Was pleasantly surprised to find that Airport will recognize a Lucent Silver WiFi card as an Airport card with no additional software...so getting it nettable was no big deal. I may keep this...

OS 9.2 - Memory to run well?

I'll pull the memory chips out of my other Lombard and run some tests...I love OS X, but having a truly whip-fast OS 9.2 machine would be fun. My 1400s don't have quite enough memory to run 9.x very comfortably, but I do still have some original OS programs that would be nice to use.

OS 9.2 - Memory to run well?

Just bought another Lombard G3 on the 'bay and I am thinking of keeping this as a original OS machine - it has 192mb memory coming with it. Can anyone verify what a good amount of memory would be for OS 9.2.2 and "normal" open programs? The cheapest 256mb WallStreet/Lombard card I can find out...

    Power supply question

I use mine interchangeably. I think there is a little difference in the wattage. But the UFO type and the 1400 type will work with both computers. I think some of the new, flat style Apple power supplies are better than either of the early ones. I guess the China UFOs can cause shorts, although...

    Clamshell RAM Question...Swap with Lombard?

I'm bidding on a Clamshell 'book at the moment...can anyone tell me if the same type of RAM for Lombards will work in a 300 or 366mhz Clam? The one I am bidding on looks nice, but is a little underpowered on RAM. If I can swap sticks with the Lombard, that would work pretty inexpensively.

    G-4 for my Pismo . . .

The bummer, of course, is the 8 mb video RAM cap with Pismo. I am enjoying mine - I have several 400s and one 500, and the browsing speed is good. I think maxing out the ram at 1gb is the best thing you can do for a 500 - that would cost $55 or less, depending on the ram you have now...

    Lombard Case Crack

I got a 400 mhz. Lombard off the 'bay in decent condition last week. Seller said "no cracks," but when I got it, it did have two. He worked with me and gave me an adjustment on the price (ultimately got it for $37 shipped), so I was happy with the transaction, but now I'm wondering if I will try...

    Pismooooooooooooo!!

A bit off topic here, but just wanted to sing the praises of Pismo durability. Got rear-ended while trying to make a left turn in my Honda Civic Tuesday night. Fairly hard hit - she was going about 15-20 mph, I'm guessing. Airbags did not deploy but close. Lots of damage to the bumper and...

    Solar Bookcover for PB 1400

Very cool! I did not realize that it sticks out like that - but I guess it has to be like that for the wiring, etc. behind the solar cells. Love the color. Definitely a conversation starter!

    Solar Bookcover for PB 1400

Yes, please! Wow, I'm glad you got a 1400, having that rare a powering source - you really need to get it going! Will be interested to see the photos...
