    Odd Quadra Motherboard

When you say 'local', is this place near where one of Apple's design/engineering facilities would have been?

    ProtoCache1 - IIsi/SE/30 PowerCache Adapter Prototype Development

For JT: Prices are for 120mmx120mm, 1.6mm thick, 2-layer PCBs. From SEEED: 10 @ 38.80. Now, here is the tricky part: If you can manage to cram everything into 100x100mm, then the price goes down to $4.90 for 10 boards! As to why increasing the per-board size by 4cm^2 sends the price up...

    ProtoCache1 - IIsi/SE/30 PowerCache Adapter Prototype Development

Well, I always figured that I would be doing assembly, as I am doing the PCB design.... And I consider myself a pretty good solderer.

    My First Quadra

If you look at it as a successor to the 610, then it seems to follow the 610's line of thinking fairly well. The 610 had a single PDS expansion slot, it had a built-in CDROM (optional), as well as no Ethernet on the entry level model as well. To be honest with you, it's kind of refreshing that...

    My First Quadra

Agreed. That being said, I am really happy with my 128MB SIMM. I love my 8MB on-board + 128MB SIMM = 136MB. Having that much memory helps a lot in NetBSD. It's nice that this model accepts a 128MB SIMM. Yup. But, unlike you, I ran some modern software (NetBSD) so I needed more RAM [:P]...

    My First Quadra

I won't disagree with you on the designed to be used part, but I will say with a full 040, esp. one clocked at 40MHz after the un-crippling mod, it certinally makes a respectable m68k performer. I agree, it wasn't exactly designed with business pros in mind, but, at the end of the day, I find it...

    Monitor Compatibility for Performa 630

Unless you have a program that can take advantage of the FPU, or you are interested in running Unix on there, the LC040 is quite good for Mac OS. I think some people here on these forums underestimate the LC040. Sure, I will agree it's lobotomized, but that doesn't mean it's bad for what it's...

    ProtoCache1 - IIsi/SE/30 PowerCache Adapter Prototype Development

Programming and I have mixed feelings. I'm starting to realize that I'm more a EE person, not a CS person. Of course, Music is my real gift. That being said, I am not a disaster when it comes to programming. I just simply have mixed feelings with it. That's all. I still enjoy programming, but...

Ultimate(r?) Mac Timeline(s) - Raw CPU performance over time by Model

They switched to Speedometer 4, which is Quadra 605 == 1.0. Converting that from Quadra 605 units to SE units (Speedometer 4 vs 3 essentially), shouldn't be too difficult. As always, we can run our own tests in Speedometer 3.

Ultimate(r?) Mac Timeline(s) - Raw CPU performance over time by Model

Take it with a grain of salt: http://lowendmac.com/benchmarks/ But there is numbers there, you can't argue with the fact that they have data. Lots of people could run Speedometer 3 on their machines to generate benchmark numbers. Speedometer benchmakrs everything as releative to an SE == 1.0...

    ProtoCache1 - IIsi/SE/30 PowerCache Adapter Prototype Development

Yes that makes sense. When you say "NOT MY HACK", you need to give yourself more credit, you are wire wrapping the first prototype! Your philosophy makes sense, and I am happy to cough up a digital switching circuit. I was merely trying to suggest that if you could prototype the adaptor, you...

Interesting discussion. Gorgonops, I never found the case to be too bad. I don't know if I just got lucky or what, but, the case seems okay.

    ProtoCache1 - IIsi/SE/30 PowerCache Adapter Prototype Development

Should I be taking that as a nudge? I could do that. You will have to let me know everything that has to be switched. :simasimac: That being said, if you can do everything else, I think you can probably cough up the digital switching circuit. I can go dig out some IC part numbers to go...

Probably a mux of some sorts would work. Check it out. Most are available in DIP package.

    My First Quadra

Maybe, but there is also quite a few people that hardly know anything about the 840av. Some are more forgotten than others. It's usually more obscure models that are forgotten about (i.e. 630). For sure more people know about the IIsi, IIci, SE/30, SE, Plus, 512k,128K, LC 1/II, CC, IIfx, Q700...

    My First Quadra

Ehh, Snow White design language was being phased out in 1990, it's not a surprise that something as late as the 630 was espresso design. Apple had a few interesting design notions going on in the 90s. Performas were almost always (I want to say always, but there is probably one exception) based...

    ProtoCache1 - IIsi/SE/30 PowerCache Adapter Prototype Development

180mm was sticking up from bottom (touching LoBo in my measurements) to top of PCB. I got a little generous with width requirements, that's okay. Everything that makes it smaller makes it cheaper. At least now we know the high(er) side of the price equation. Yes, my thoughts too. Let's just...

    ProtoCache1 - IIsi/SE/30 PowerCache Adapter Prototype Development

All numbers (unless otherwise stated) are based on 180mm*100mm, 4-layer, 1.6mm thick PCBs. (sorry I think in SI units) Note: This does _NOT_ include the cost of PALs, connectors, assembly, test, etc. It's just for a BARE board:: From SEEED: 10 @ $122.60, 20 @ 165.80, 100 @ 522.90 From...
