Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Well I have another confirmed runner to add to this thread... the IIvx I scored as part of my Canberra haul finally got plugged in and fired straight up with a clean install of 7.5.3 already onboard. Everything works great except a sticky eject mechanism on the floppy. Very clean machine...
Cheers for the infor guys! :D Yes I must admit I am loving this whole SYstem 7 on an LCD experience... beautiful!
This 1501 was chucked in with my current G5 when I bought it and I must say I really do like it a lot... only 3 supported resolutions but for a cheap LCD that isnt terrible, It's...
Welp, took a dive and it paid off... Never has System 7.5 looked so great!
Only problem is that seeing as though the IIvx is hogging the G5 screen I am now using the G4 to do this and the Tiger install on here is a sack of crap, so the only browser that's not crashing is Mozilla 1.7 and there...
As the title suggests, I am jonesing for some info regarding the use of modernish TFT displays on pre-PPC Macs, as I have a couple of VGA adaptors and limited space. I assume the onboard graphics controllers simply will not support large high resolution monitors or smaller monitors designed to...
Yeh I can't see too many circumstances where the brightness would need to be hard-altered unless an actual compoonent was failing and causing the screen to dim... there seems to be plenty of brightness reserve left at the default halfway point. :)
So, under that cover panel on the Classic just above the power switch, there are what appear to be two unlabelled adjustable potentiometers or such on the analogue board... I've never known or particularly cared what they are for, but assumed they probably relate to display V- and H-position or...
I just dragged out a few of my machines... my other CC and two formerly working Classics. really am hoping for the best but expecting the worst. These havent seen daylight in some time.
The 30? Yep... it's had a very hard life the poor thing. A recap should fix the electronic side of things but the case will be an interesting excercise to get fixed to an acceptable standard. Ideally I would prefer to get another case, but I wont hold my breath for one either.
And this is my haggard socketted SE/30... had it for about 13 years and definitiely a lot of work in getting this up to scratch again... As you can see from the pics it had a terrible life before it came to be in my hands.
This is far, far far from being the lot of it, so watch...
My mint SE Superdrive... bought 10 years ago at a recovery center shop for $20.
My first Mac Plus, purchased at a school sale in the 7th grade, circa 2000. partial recap in 2002 but needs full recap I reckon seeing as though the filter caps are gone anyway.
My trio of Pluses and my...
And here are my pair of iMacs that were painstakingly rebuilt... Graphite is possibly up for round two surgery shortly due to some recurring issues. The build process was covered start to finish in my blog for the graphite one, should this be a thing that interests you. Oh... and my faithful...
So, I just decided to consolidate my various stuff and things into a single thread on another forum yesterday so figured I may as well do the same here. Some of the stuff here you will have already seen threads about, other stuff probably not.
But yeh, I'll just add things to here as I procure...
I personally can't see any real-world justification for the expense and/or effort of development on a largeish scale. Cool idea on paper but it really does sound like a case of travelling the world for the sake of sixpence. Not that I am in any way intending to trivialise the efforts of the...
Ah excellent information gentlemen! I will take it apart sometime soon when I have some spare time on my hands and have a look what I'm dealing with. :)
CHeers mate that looks to be worth it's weight in gold. :) I might look at pulling the A-board out when I have time and give it some hot air to see if it makes a difference. :)
Well, as of late I have noticed my SE Superdrive has developed a bit of a jittery display most noticable when it first powers on, and some ever so slight dimensional changes with changes to or from largeish areas of white. As the machine warms up the jitters diminish... and a tap or so on the...
Yeh this is pretty much the way of the world... have two logic boards, an a 64Mb R7000? Mac Edition and a 16Mb Rage128 that is a stock Yosemite/Yikes video card, and a generic Phillips 17" CRT and a Graphite 17" Studio Display (Yikes/Sawtooth era so should be compatible with at least the stock...
It is pretty simple, but I would recommend downloading the teardown manual from PBMedic in any case just to be sure you don't accidentally break anything as it can be a little fiddly splitting the base unit open. :)
Can't even get to the point of being able to boot unfortunately... It powers up the screen just after the startup chime without displaying anything then just drops it back to power saving mode, and there appears to be no disk activity after the initial post-startup detection of drives. :(
