Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Definitely worth going back to see if there's any more good stuff there. Your current haul is amazing and there may still be hidden treasures in that storage unit!
If it is free then yes, go for it. By the sounds of it if the MDD wasn't chiming at startup then it was more likely that the MDD had something wrong with it. It could just need something as simple as a CUDA switch reset - my G4 needs that occasionally to get it going.
Yes, go to the "Internet" tab under the "Sharing" control panel in OS X to set it up. The G4 will effectively act as a DHCP server to which you can connect other Macs via ethernet. Depending on how you are connected to the internet with your G4 you may require a PCI card if the built-in ethernet...
Yep, I tried MacWWW back in the days of dialup but it was appauling! I'm pretty sure the others do need System 7 as I have done some experimenting with them. My Plus does have 7 on it but using System 6 is just that bit more special!
I'll definitely look into Lynx with an OS X machine, sounds...
I have just succeeded in getting my Mac Plus on the internet through broadband using my Sonic ethernet to SCSI adaptor. I am posting this message from the Plus using NCSA Telnet running under System 6.0.8. "Telnet?" you ask... It's a nifty little trick using a certain telnet-based web community...
There most certainly is life still left in your iBook! Your experience with Mac OS X 10.1.2 will probably taint your opinion of Mac OS X as it is an old and slow version. It would be much better to try Mac OS X 10.3 or 10.4 on the machine to really appreciate OS X, and these later versions will...
Wow, nice find! That is an especially good set-up with a decent amount of RAM and the ethernet card.
With your configuration you should be able to run iCab, which is probably the most suitable browser if you plan to access any fairly modern or complicated pages. One of my favourite word...
Strangely enough I found my Torx-15 driver at a country fayre which had trade stalls set up at it. It was one of these el-cheapo tools stalls and I got the driver for something ridiculously cheap like 50p. Maybe check out local markets or something?
I have found that a case splitting tool is...
I have made a full backup of the hard drive on a Zip disk. I had a look for the drivers and there doesn't seem to be any specific ones, just Apple network drivers. The card must be an Apple one as it works fine with the current setup - I have just now been using it for Appletalk and connecting...
Photo of the SE/30 switched on, after cleaning: http://www.flickr.com/photos/23826245@N00/2365993407/
I haven't sorted out a place to put it yet and I need to dig out a suitable keyboard and mouse for it from my extensive stocks. It certainly looks a lot happier now that it isn't covered with...
Well I've been cleaning up the SE/30 today and it is looking good. The drive mechanism was ceased but I have loosened it off with some WD40. I used steel wool to remove the majority of rust but I will also follow equill's suggestion of using a rust converter to finish the job.
The motherboard...
It is probably just a coincidence that the icons and OS X logo look similar but sometimes an idea can be inspired from something that someone saw long before. To elaborate, maybe the person desinging the OS X logo had once seen the same icons as you found and used them for inspiration on a...
Just crud, the Mac was sitting near an extraction unit that seemed to have covered everything with dust and those pictures were taken in the street shortly after finding the Mac. There is no case yellowing to speak of. I'm going to clean it up tomorrow and try rubbing the rust off the ports at...
Something caught my eye near some bins today and on closer inspection I discovered that the bit of "platinum" coloured plastic that I had spotted from a distance was in fact a very neglected looking SE/30. I promptly rescued it and a few minutes ago, (after opening the case and checking...
I remember when I got my LC 475 - I had been using a Mac Plus up to that point so the LC 475 felt so fast in comparison and it had colour! It was the machine that started me on the internet with a 14K US Robotics modem and Netscape 3. Eventually I got a 56K modem for it and used it as my...
