Yes, my 605 lives! ;) I pulled it out and it was a little dusty. I had a nice seagate HD in there, and one of those cool SIMM-adapters that gives me 2 SIMMS in the place of the one slot on the MB. I also remembered that I had tracked down a real '040 and replaced the LC version that was in...
I also have a Quadra 605 that I've had put away for a number of years.
Are there known leaky caps on that MB?
This is the one that's the same MB as the LC 475.
It was a SE that had a Se/30 MB in it - way back I worked somewhere (a big university, late 90's) where I got a lot of SE/30 mobos, and then bought a bunch of SEs (three) and just tossed the SE mobos and made them SE/30. Long story short- 2 were lost over time, and the last one I had- the MB had...
Ok, so forget the Classic. I also have two SEs.
So take one of the SE analog board and PS- and re-cap them?
The PS for the SE and SE/30 should be pretty much the same.
Sure, there are 3 reasons to add on '040/'030 mac to the mix.
1. Much much faster. It will decompress the files for you so you can copy them - uncompressed- to your SE via localtalk.
2. More RAM and disk - most 040s you will pick up will have 8+ megs and 200 Meg hd, making the decompression...
So, my SE/30 has some burn in on the Tube. And I think the caps may be going on it- the screen gets random interference about once an hour that lasts just for about 1 second.
From what I've read I should be able to swap the CRT and Analog Board from a Classic I picked up (which is in really...
I got new batteries about 2 years ago- I guess those may be dead. I'll scrounge some other Macs to salvage two good ones and test. I will also try the jump start.
yeah I see those 2 caps. They seemed clean- and no smell, but it hasn't been on in 10 years so maybe you don't smell them till they...
Your best bet is to go to Craigslist or Ebay and get an '040 based Macintosh. Use that as an intermediary. Using a SE alone is an almost impossible/impractical pursuit. You also need System 7 or above to run the SMI (self-mounting images) and or DiskCopy.
Of course you connect them together...
I liberated my IIfx from my attic where it's been for 10+ years.
I'm pretty sure I got this back in the late 90's from the University of Maryland Computer Recycler. I picked up a bunch of stuff back them when they were cheap. I paid somewhere around 20-50 for this I'm pretty sure.
It's dead as...
Wait- I have 2 yellow side-ways mounted cap-looking things - both have a little bit of yellow power near the ends.
One is very big -- are these the caps on the IIFX? Let me find a pict:
I just made sure it powered on, but something is up w/ the internal SCSI drive. And the Syquest that had been booting it for years is now dead- it spins up but won't engage and swing the heads out (the fast clicking noise thet make). So the CC just flashes a Disk? icon at me. But I'm really just...
yep , this. Sigh.
Are the caps fixable on the LCD?
Caps caps caps caps... this is nuts.
Do caps go back on IIfx? I better pull mine from the attic and see what is going on with it.
This is a PB100 I got over the summer, never had one before.
Plugging it in and turning it on it chimes, I can see the screen backlight come on and the HD spin up.
Nothing is on the screen.
After about 5 seconds the HD spins down.
That is pretty much all it does at this point.
Anyone...
Yeah, googling brought me to a posting from 8 years ago on LEM list- someone in midwest had them. I emailed him but they were long gone... :) It was worth a shot, as they were a Mac Store that was still in business.
I didn't realize it was- this just came with this SE/30 when I liberated it about 10 years ago. It's the first one I've seen.
But I can sometimes see that heavy CPU usage gives some feedback in the screen- I guess it is affecting the PS. Perhaps that needs to get redone as well.
I just got my two boards back from Uni today (thx). I got a SE/30 and CC recapped.
Now I finally have my SE/30 working without the weird SCSI problems it's had for the past 3 years!
Here are some photos of the happy work today:
It's now got 7.5.3 and happily working...
I got my StarRouter, and with the supplies I already have for my never-used StarController I had it up and connected to my Mac.
However, the disks for the StarController do not work on the Router.
So I'm looking for anyone that may have some StarCommand 2.2 Disks for the StarRouter.
Until I...
No but I use the 2.5 AztecMonster with a 2GB CF card for by PB180 and it works flawlessly. It's worth it to not have the noise and the chance that the drive will just die with no warning.
