Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
I was referring to the drivers in a hidden partition on the disk like how the Mac stores hard disk drivers. These are needed so that the drive can be accessed by the Mac before the operating system has loaded. The correct way to write these to the disk is to use a formatting utillity such as...
That's what I was going to say.
Also some installers asked you to insert the disks in a specified order or displayed a status message indicating which disk they thought that they were copying from. You might be able to use that information to figure out where the files are supposed to go.
I've also noticed that folder in the Trash when my system crashes while using ResEdit. On the topic of autosaving work, there was even a keylogger extension which would allow one to reconstruct a lost file with complete accuracy because the keystrokes were saved to disk as they were typed...
Did you put the zip disk drivers on the zip disk or are you loading them from your current startup volume? If the latter then you need to put the drivers on the actual zip disk otherwise it will not be possible to boot from that zip disk.
I boot System 7.1 and System 7.5 on my Mac (due to software compatibility reasons) using System Switcher (or something like that) and two System Folders (the less-used one has got a different name) all in a single partition. People have always done just that to dual-boot System 6 and System 7...
On second thought, I seem to remember reading about something called Browser6, which was a web browser for System 6.
I don't know how it performs in a modern environment, however.
It's still an interesting project which I would be keen to take up again at some time, but I'm really busy at the moment so I'm not going to be needing them now.
I'll let you know if/when I need them (or the entire LC III, for that matter :p )!
To be honest with you, it would be very interesting to see a web browser developed for 68ks that is compatible with more modern internet standards (such as IPv6, HTML 5, and so on).
Firefox might be a good place to start...
For this you'll need the kind of cable that you use to connect a printer: a male-to-male cable. Connect one end to the back of your Mac and the other end to the connector on the trackball.
I did hear of someone who was making a transparent bubble to go over the front of the LCD to make it curved more like a CRT. That would have been my choice in preference to flattening the bezel.
I had at one stage been interested in modifying System 6 to run on an LC-series machine with an 040 processor. I was toying between names-at one stage 6.0.9 did come to mind!
Is that expected? I thought it was supposed to work with almost all Macs now? I didn't know BMOW had dropped support for the earlier machines with the latest firmware update. Perhaps you should let him know that you would prefer it if he supported both? And in any case, can't you downgrade it again?
