Reverse Engineering the Macintosh Plus PCB

Board layout, gerbers and scans are now on GitHub: https://github.com/max234252/MacPlus-Reloaded As with my other designs these are provided under a non-commercial licence but if you are a repairer and want to offer transplant services (or have any other commercial use in mind) please contact...

    Termination fuse ?

The LC II doesn't have a scsi termpower fuse however it is conceivable if shorted the diode at D1 (Just below the external scsi connector) could be damaged so it might be worth checking that if your heaving termpower issues

    Recreateing the Apple TechStep

I have confirmed modern LCD's with the HD44780 compatible controllers do work fine on the techstep :) I thought I had posted that in this thread but I guess not... Must have only mentioned it in PM's with @jajan547 Here is the techstep working with a modern backlit LCD (Which looks much...

Silicon Image SIL3112 Flashing: Easier Way Using flashrom

From some old threads it seems the AM29LV040B, PM39LV040 or MX29LV040 are the only supported chips by the stock formware though I can't say I ever tried it on one of the SST chips

Silicon Image SIL3112 Flashing: Easier Way Using flashrom

Really? I thought all the supported chips where 3.3v? The SST39SF0x0 series are all 5v chips (the LF are the 3.3v ones) EDIT: Haveing dug through some old threads it looks like the AM29LV040B, PM39LV040 or MX29LV040 are the only supported chips by the stock firmware I'll try it tomorrow, my...

Silicon Image SIL3112 Flashing: Easier Way Using flashrom

Just tried it, seems to work fine :) Booted my 8600 into 8.6 from a SATA HDD from a card which now has a SST39SF040 installed

Silicon Image SIL3112 Flashing: Easier Way Using flashrom

Will do, I have a bunch of SST39SF040's so i'll give it a try with one of those :)

After a long round of troubleshooting and parts sourcing the first batch are almost ready, just need to do final testing on the cards. Current intention is to offer fully populated / tested / working cards. Will hopefully be posting them in the trading post this weekend :)

    Recreateing the Apple TechStep

Much progress has been made since the my last post to this thread! Stage 2 is now more or less complete, All the hardware has been reverse engineered and new boards have been drawn up and sent off for manufacture. A quick overview of the current status of the hardware: Logicboard: Port...

Reverse Engineering the Color Classic AB

When creating straight copies of PCB's I generally favour Sprint layout, it allows you to import scans and trace over them and once you get used to it it is quick and easy to use however it has a couple of drawbacks - it dosen't create any kind of netlist or have any schematic tied to the design...

Finding a replacement for D1 on a first generation Macintosh LC

Yep, it only grounds the odd pins on the the connector

Finding a replacement for D1 on a first generation Macintosh LC

D1 is part of the power supply circuit for the EGRET so is not the cause of your issue D3 is the one which generates term power (it's up by the external SCSI connector) it your BlueSCSI works on a externally it must be working so it seems likely you have a trace break between the internal and...

    Mac SE ADB Controller

Can confirm the 87 and 88 both work - I have used a 88 in a SE and a 87 in a IIcx (using a little QFN to PLCC adapter board I made) both of which worked perfectly

Reverse Engineering the Macintosh LC III Logicboard

A quick note for anyone who might have had one of these boards made: I have discovered a error in the layout which stops accelerator cards form working in these boards (And possibly PDS cards that try to do DMA), there is a resistor on /BR of the onboard CPU that should be a pull down but is...

800K Floppy Drive Continuous Clicking - Zero Track Problem?

My plus dose this, but the drive doesn't do it in another mac suggesting this is a logicboard issue (unless the fact I tested it on a SWIM based mac makes a difference) I can also say that it has intermittently done this since the late 80's / early 90's - the Plus had this issue when my dad...

@Phipli Just availability, the BCT's where easy to get when I ordered parts and looked to my untrained eye to be compatible. The only "common" variant of the 651 now seems to be the ABT651 but that is only really available in SOP24 packages these days. I actually have some of these (As I used...

Soo this CPU card is bveing a real pain - I just can't get the repro to work reliably. I think this might be due to me substituting thhe hard to find 74ALS651's for 74BCT651's so this will be on hold for a couple of weeks while I wait for the real 74ALS6651's I have ordered to arrive
