If you’re paying a pro to replace the caps, battery holders then it’s not a bad idea to have the power supply checked and the system tested to insure it boots to the desktop.

I’ve used the capacitor replacement kit for my Atari 800XL from Console5 - the parts were high quality and correct. I recall there was a system extension to enable built-in Ethernet. Try disabling the extension.

Good job on getting the computer working. Some of those heat sink clips are a pain to remove. I’ve found orange wood sticks are usually stiff enough for prying things off boards, but usually not stiff enough to scratch circuits.

I would check the electrolytic caps. I think a lot of counterfeit caps were used on computers at that time.

I’ve heard the 1 MB onboard slows the computer down a few %. There is a Ram disk program designed to use the onboard Ram that effectively speeds the computer up.

You may want to consider if you can run the computer without a battery. The 660AV will not start without a battery. However a G4 iMac boots fine without a battery - you just need to set the clock

The FireWire target disk mode mentioned above should work - no need to buy a drive.

How did you install OSX 10.4.11 on the original iBook. According to MacTracker, OSX 10.3.9 was the max.

When Restoring this iBook, will the fluorescent tube be replaced or can you replace it with LED backlighting?
