    End of Carbon

What do you people think about Carbon beeing outphased? I mean.. I like Mac OS X. But, I don't really like Objective C. It's okay, not soooo bad. But fixing the API and the language, to Cocoa and Object C, seems to me a quite wrong decision.

Sawtooth + Leopard Inexplicably Consuming RAM

:D Hmm well. If the memory used by the processes is not what's draining your memory usage... you know that almost all free memory is normally eaten up by UNIX systems for the file system cache, right (beeing freed when a program demands memory)? Maybe you are seeing that?

I seriously tried 7.6 and 7.5.5 and 8.1 (under Vista and OS X). Actually it was the reason why I wanted to have a Sawtooth or cousin of it.

    System 6 Browser Development Opinions

:b&w: Isn't the problem with this not the User Interface on the Mac (Text or real graphics) but the lack of a TCP/IP Stack in System 6?

:-x Let a .NET program, created in the US-American Culture settings without thinking an i18n, write floating point values to a file, and then, when run on a DE-German Culture setting, try to read them, and you'll hate the point and comma freakiness. 1.000,00 is perfect for me 1,000.00 for...

    G4 (sawtooth) graphic cards

The only thing I now is that the AGP Swatooth has an AGP 2x slot, so newer cards will not fit to it. GeForce Ti's, and ATI Radeon 7000 should fit, as I read at least.

    OS/2 Warp 4!

They were much too large, and much too conservative. It's good for us that it's not IBM vs Apple today. Do you remember the way they did updates? In which way's they did new features and developed OS/2 further? They weren't right for this thing, and it's good they didn't really try either.

Anybody use a Linux machine as their main desktop machine?

You are right, there are other things, better things. But this is what a Linux installation is, no central instance that smoothes things out. Microsoft decides about the API at al on Windows, Apple does on Mac OS. The Linux Kernel and the general UNIX and C interfaces are standardized, too. But...
