Airport cards have dropped in price dramatically in the past five or six years. You can get one for around $10 USD on eBay these days.
Why not upgrade it to a nice 1024x768 XGA display? Makes it far more usable for normal everyday use...
Well then, I gotta say I'm pretty glad you didn't drive the price up. :D
Now I just need to get a network card, a video accelerator, and maybe a fast SCSI card. Can't wait until the monitor gets here!
I bought a IIci sort of on impulse recently. I managed to get the machine and a monitor for just under $70 shipped (more than half was the shipping cost). The original reason I bid on the auction was to get the DayStar Universal 50MHz PowerCache card that came with it.
It arrived today, and the...
Really, the main justification for sticking with Linux (if possible) is that we already have a Linux file server running. I also have a Server 2008 R2 file server, but I think getting that working would be a much bigger hassle than Linux. I don't have a machine I can use for a straight up...
The two machines I'm using with Classic OS right now are:
Pismo PowerBook, OS 9.2.2
SE/30, System 7.5.5 with OT 1.1.2 and AppleShare 3.7.4
I have a file share set up on an iMac running 10.5, and AFP is turned on for that share. Neither Classic client can see it in the Chooser (turned on...
Wait...does 10.5 not support AppleShare over TCP/IP?
If that's the case, is there a way to run something within Classic? Does the HFS/HFS+ support available for Debian-based Linux (e.g. Ubuntu) handle things reliably enough to just use that?
We (bf and I) have decided to have a go at writing some software for System 7.5 and OS 9. We've now found ourselves with several Macs running various versions of the classic Mac OS on our network.
We have an Ubuntu server running Netatalk, and connecting via AppleShare over TCP/IP is working...
Well, I tried using Photoshop and a really simple image, and it still isn't working.
The same version of Decor (from Macintosh Garden) and a bare System 7.5.5 (not much installed besides the OS) in Basilisk II works fine with JPEGs. I'm thinking it's got something to do with the SE/30...
I'm glad people like the image of a messed up CRT, at least! :)
So does it seem likely that our current symptoms are related to bad caps? We can recap that board; that's no big deal.
Got a few things, actually.
Here's the fix:
Click here to go to the flickr page, where you can see a full-res version.
Incidentally, we have a new problem. The machine has stopped booting reliably. Seems like just jostling it causes it to either start or stop working. This is what we see...
Sorry to necro a thread and all but I wanted to post back on this since we JUST fixed this problem tonight, and someone might find this thread via Google.
One of the vertical deflection yoke wires was broken. No idea how it happened, I'm guessing it was just from age. We resoldered that single...
I have an SE/30 running 7.5.5. I installed QuickTime 4.0.3, and the OS can now open image formats like JPG and BMP. However, I installed Decor and while it can render a preview of the selected image, the wallpaper doesn't actually set.
The extension is loaded (icon shows up when the OS is...
TattleTech appears to be long gone - none of the download sites have a valid link to it. I did find a copy of TattleTale on Macintosh Garden, and I'll check out Tech Tool. Thanks!!
Are there any applications out there that can more or less do what System Profiler does? SP 1.0.1 won't install on the SE/30, since it was only designed to run on a handful of Apple machines. I'd like something that lets me see hardware and system information, software versions, etc. I remember...
Ok so boyfriend did some testing and discovered that the deflection yoke coil is bad - he measured 20+ ohms across the vertical and 300+ ohms between the vertical and horizontal deflection coil.
Unless we are mistaken, there should not be measurable resistance here, correct?
Well, the only part we butchered and replaced were those four wires (they were four different colors; I remember that much). We took the four off the Classic II and used them on the SE/30's power (P1) connection. When we decided to reassemble the Classic II, we used four wires from a standard...
Back story:
Classic II I found in a dumpster a few years ago. Recently thought I was going to gut it and use the case for a separate project, so I cannibalized the four power supply wires between the CRT and the analog board for a much-needed SE/30 repair. The same weekend, my boyfriend decided...
