I recieved the Mini yesterday it is nice for a second Mac.
It seems like my G5 is faster...or on par with the mini
I installed 10.6 on the mini.
the mini is the 2009 model... with 2 GB ram...
I thought mini's were supposed to be faster?
No, I tried to run xbench but when it was time to upload the results it said the server was not available, I thought it was little snitch but it wasn't
My 2.0 is a dual core, the 2.3 was a dual processor.
mine has 16GB ram, the 2.3's max was 8GB.
The ram is not interchangable.
the 2.3 was pciX, my 2.0 is pciE, I just bought a ATI x1900 radeon...
OK, I put the 2.3GHZ on ebay... I don't have enough space on the desk, I put it up for 550.00 and within 2 hrs it was gone.. buy it now.
I had immediate payment option, so I looked for a mac mini auction and found one, a mac mini 2009 (the newest with the nvidia graphics) BNIB with 2GB ram and...
how much further can ANY software company go with OS's... I mean really OS's are ment to RUN programs...
Look at some people who are still running OS 6 on a mac classic or a SE/30... 7.5.6 on a performa.... 8.0 on a 9600....look at os 9.2.2 I have that on my AIO and it is fast and snappy and it...
Thanks... It runs very good.... the previous owner never did any maint on it and then finding 2 screws in it floating around tells me that someone tried to do something... but they are out now and it's been running all day running bionic, that's pretty cpu intensive...
and are you going to move to Macpro..?
do you see benefits of ditching your machine in favor of a macpro (besides speed)...?
How often do you buy Mac's?
Jim
You have to remember that the G4's are a little older than the G5's and the G5's are a little older than the MacPro...
But in the end it's up to the person who uses it nd what they use it for...
I personally love the G5, now I have 2 (check my sig).
And they will be used...
with the economy...
My 2.3 was introduced a little bit before the dual cores... so it's not that old, maybe in computer years but its still a VERY capable machine...
2.3 GHz dual 512/160 introduced 2005.04.27 at $2,499
replaced 2005.10.19 by Power Mac G5s with dual-core CPUs
requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later
CPU...
I'll be running Adobe CS 4 with my main machine my 2.0 dual core G5..
it's not for a collection but to be used..
I know I have to up the memory but there's no rush...
The G5's are more than enough to run Adobe CD 4 and other stuff I have... for awhile...
I Love The G5's they are tanks!!!
But just B/C they aren't supported doesn't mean they are no good...
I really was never into LAGS (Latest and Greatest Syndrome)... one can go broke doing that...
There are people running OS 9.2.2 and still being productive, getting emails and such...
yes it was 225.00 USD... I been checking them out on ebay and some (like what I just bought today) go for 600.00 and up...
and they want 50.00 or 60.00 for shipping...
I was looking on craigslist today and saw a PM G5 2.3GHZ 2004 model and the guy wanted 225.00 B/C he said it was shutting down programs by itself, programs not the OS or the hardware..
I go over there and the unit was in good condition I offered him 200.00 he said he would throw in a AP extreme...
but the only thing is that this G3 AIO used to install 10.2 natively... not anymore... and I cannot figure it out...
I was running Xpostfacto with 10.3.9 then I wiped the HDD and wanted to reinstall 9.2.2 & 10.2.8....
since doing a cpu upgrade to my powermac G3 AIO.... I was going to sell it but decided to keep it. I formatted the drive, zeroed out all data... installed OS 9.2.2 then went to install 10.2.8 it tells me that the os needs the first 8GB partition, I never saw that before upgrading the cpu to...
well it isn't vintage yet... it is still a very capable machine and the difference from 2.0GHZ to 2.3 is not much, only 300MHZ anyways... and with 16 gb ram this thing doesn't stutter...
Vintage is a color classic, performa 6500, or even a powermac g3...
My feeling is that every computer will get obsolete.
You pay 3K 2.5 yr's later it's worth 1.5K or whatever...
if you got it at a good price and you are happy with it, that's all that matters...
memory: I have 16GB in my Dual core 2.0 and it's VERY snappy...
None the less, the G5 did get screwed with 10.6 BUT it will not stop working B/C of that...
How many people actually buy a new OS when it first comes out, I myself do not go out of my way to upgrade to a new OS.
If I bought a new computer and received the newest OS that is when I only...
