FOUND OUR PROBLEM!
thanks to reading the thread posted by @techknight I did some poking around and sure enough, L14 is completely missing! Gonna grab that off the other SE/30 board and see if I can get this one fired up.
im also missing c74 and r35 (though r35 looks like it was never there...
Yes it’s missing quite a few components. Not too worried about that.
After cleaning off most of the garbage the traces are actually not as bad as I expected. It’s still got a long way to go but it’s getting there. At the moment I actually have more hope for that board than the other one lol.
An update: connected the speaker on both boards. The corroded nasty one made a sort of noise when powered on (no chime, no ram). The gold socketed one was silent.
Got this one from Johnnya101. Had only a vertical line on the screen.
I snapped the connector on the red wire so I had to replace that... the rest was pretty straightforward. Just used a solder-sucker and got rid of the old stuff around the problem areas and re-soldered.
Yea I think that would be my next step. Oh by the way @Johnnya101, that floppy connector housing didn’t last long lol. I think I could’ve peeled it off with my bare hands. One of the screws snapped while removing it but oh well.
To confirm, nothing happens at all. It’s rather strange. I’m...
There isn’t much else to explain except that literally nothing happens when powered on. I know the analog board and crt are good because I tested it with another board.
Picture of the board can be seen below.
Where do I start? I’m sure even if the caps were bad it would do *something*
Glad that thing is getting retrobrite. I agree it was quite intensely yellow. Would you believe me if I said my Plus was worse
im surprised at how much dust accumulated. I cleaned that thing inside quite extensively (with a dry toothbrush and damp paper towel).
My partial disassembly...
How much is shipping to the US? That would help a lot of the users here. There are definitely people over on your end who would like it too though. Don't scrap it! :)
SSD and ram upgrades are surely a must. Is there anything that can be done to prolong the life of the OEM graphics chip? Is it integrated or in a slot (what slot)?
Not sure how I end up with such nice items for free. Some friends were getting rid of it and knew that I collected such things, but man I've been using it as my daily machine now!
Upgrade to 8gb and a nice SSD and it should last a few more years.
WOAH! This is quite a haul!
Edit:
The icing on the cake would be if that 160 had a larger hard drive or a ram upgrade! It would go nicely with the one you just bought from me.
Edit2:
And a few of those machines look like they've never seen sunlight. This is quite a neat addition to your...
