Hello MLAers! We've re-enabled auto-approval for accounts. If you are still waiting on account approval, please check this thread for more information.
Thanks, will check that out!
Yeah, thinking I'll check out the local hackerspace to see if they have anyone who's done this stuff and will let me watch while they do it, so I can learn.
For me this is useful feedback, so go right ahead. If you want to take this elsewhere, I like to hang out on the Discord for /r/ProgrammingLanguages...
Given that you don't declare objects in HyperTalk, but rather create them using a GUI at runtime (or using the "create" command), and then they end up as concrete things in your SmallTalk-like image, I'm kinda thinking classes should at the least work the same way.
So one approach I'm...
@cheesestraws Hmm, interesting. As a scripter back then, I definitely saw the need to be able to pre-package behaviors and attach them to objects.
When I poked around in the original Myst a few weeks ago, I found that they used the button name for that. All buttons seemed to have been created...
@bdurbrow The scripting language's engine is a bytecode compiler + virtual machine, so yes, no JIT (yet?) and will just compile on other platforms. Given iPhone and Mac used different CPUs, I didn't really want to write TWO compilers at the beginning, the project is gigantic enough as-is...
Since it's still in development, system requirements are currently "whatever the current OS is when I release a new build" :ROFLMAO:
So that's likely MacOS 10.14 on an Intel Mac or so at the moment. Chances are it will also run on an ARM Mac in Rosetta, but I don't have one yet, so that's not...
Hi,
since someone in another thread mentioned it'd be interesting, just thought I'd mention that I'm working on a HyperCard clone names Stacksmith that runs on modern OSes. Some goal posts:
1. Fix some of the mistakes SuperCard and LiveCode made in extending HyperCard's design
2. Make it feel...
@Kai Robinson Oh that would be cool.
Though I guess it might be easier to just use all modern hardware, with maybe a patch to the ROMs or so to make it look like original hardware for anyone using system API. I mean, a Raspberry Pi these days is probably fast enough to emulate a Mac Plus at...
I wouldn't know where to start doing a recap. Any tutorials you can recommend? My soldering skills ended at connecting model train cables, so I wouldn't know what capacitors to buy (nor would I probably be able to tell half of them from especially big diodes).
Now that you mention it, I did get...
I've unplugged all hard disks, though not the CD or floppy drive. There also seems to be an SCSI card in the Quadra (FWB PowerSCSI or something like that? I'd have to pop it open again to check). But thanks, that's a good point, I may be able to poke around in SCSI-related areas some more. Not...
Regarding a new HyperCard?
I think Hopscotch and Scratch are completely different but try to scratch the same itch.
Of course, a lot of things one used to use HyperCard for are now included with a modern OS. There is no need for the address book stack, because Address Book is an app that comes...
Obviously I'm biased, but IMO LiveCode is a valiant effort at creating an accessible open-source programming language, and it can import and run HyperCard stacks, but that is what it is: A programming environment.
It completely misses the point of HyperCard being a software erector set...
BTW -- if anyone has HyperTalk/HyperCard questions, feel free to point me at threads here. I'm working on a HyperCard clone for modern computers in my spare time, so I might know a thing or two that is hard to find out.
Say, I'm not sure if you folks are familiar with the Commander X16? It's an effort to basically build a C64 clone that can be used today (with HDMI displays etc.) and is simplified a little. Useful for e.g. teaching computing basics.
I'm wondering, could these PCBs be used for a project like...
Hi,
I was hoping someone here could help me revive a Quadra 840av. It seems fine, apart from the power LED being missing (the socket on the main board is there, but there is no LED + cable behind the transparent plastic), but I can't get it to boot through.
When I boot it, I get a proper...
