I am using StuffIt Expander 5.5 already.

For many .sit files on my System 7.6.1 machine, I get The application "unknown" has unexpectedly quit, because an error of type 3 occured. I get this for almost every .sit that I've tried. Haven't found any info online that's been much help. Anyone know how I can resolve this?

Okay, I installed Debian 7.7.0 and it worked perfectly on the first try. Something between this version and the newest must have broken something with yaboot? I'm not sure. This is interesting.

I found an article about someone installing Debian 7.7.0 on their G5 so I'm gonna try that version and see if it works. I'm downloading the iso by use of jigdo right now.

The partitioning and HD seem fine. I don't think there's a live CD for debian for PPC otherwise I'd try to install that way (though the HD looks fine through an Ubuntu live disk). I'd prefer to use debian.

This has only happened on my G5, not any other PPC machine that I've tried. Could it have something to do with the hard drive being in the bottom bay? I wouldn't  think it would matter so much and I can't easily put it up top as I don't have the proper rails

I just have the one disk in the machine right now. Nothing besides Linux.

I mean, the current release of Debian still supports it, it's just yaboot is getting configured wrong for whatever reason.

Do you have to do it from the live CD? Because if so, debian's not a livecd. :-/ edit: okay, I can chroot into the install on the HD through the rescue disk.  I tried following those steps and still have the problem (yes, the partition number is the same as what he had)

When I try to connect to his FTP server through ftp, it doesn't work on my PC or through Fetch. Just index of / with nothing in it.

It'll lose the resource forks cuz I'm on a Windows PC, that's the issue..
