128k Mac Analog Board - Help, I need to identify the parts.

Hi! It seems most compacts use a similar analog board -- the one documented here is from a Plus, but I identified the components on your picture and they match with those on that document's page 21 (Figure 14). Namely: C39 = Electrolytic capacitor, 470 µF 10 V R44, R48 = Resistor, 100 ohm...

    Enormous SIMM!

I've got a set of 8 MiB 30p SIMMs almost as large as tokyoracer's... But the main problem with mine is that they have chips on both sides, so they won't fit on the Quadra 700 -- too thick! :-( They did fine on the IIsi, though.

    CF AztecMonsters have landed

I believe the only performance increase would be the zero seek time of the CF -- the SE/30's SCSI bus throughput would be already maxed by a 'decent' (say, mid-90s) HDD. Not that it isn't important, though... especially in a complex system like Mac OS, heavily dependant on frequent disk...

    SE/30 w/Signatures (a request)

    My SE/30 doesn't -- currently open, waiting for a replacement 53C80 :-( I believe it was made in 1989 (Serial: CK04005GKH1)

    Documenting my IIfx repair

Hi! As far as I know, dead batteries on a Mac II / IIx won't be able to turn on the Power Supply. Not sure about the IIfx, though, but worth a try with fresh batteries before doing anything else. I think you can leave the processor while washing the board... I let mine on my IIx mobo, and now...

Can you identify this "newlife computer corp" card?

I believe is a graphic card... the DB9 connector definitely matches what was used by MDA, CGA and Hercules cards on the oldest PCs. Another thing that drew my attention is the Xtal: 14.31818 MHz, which is x3 the clock frequency of the earliest PCs (8088 @ 4.77) and x4 the NTSC color subcarrier...

    Font/DA Mover, perhaps?

    Recapping a Classic I

Hi! From the picture, I can see the capacitors you mention -- they're all of the failure-prone type, like many other all-in-one Macs (e.g. SE/30). Also, since you can see some gunk around C8, I think it's time to recap! Following my experience with the SE/30, I'd recommend this procedure: 1)...

Loband: web fat trimmer for limited clients.

The big limitation of Wannabe is that it doesn't support text fields (web forms) at all, thus no way to login anywhere... Without proper cookies support, it won't get too far anyway, but I could *manage* (note the effort) navigating thru some sites that requiere login. Unfortunately, I couldn't...

    Who has an Asante MacCon?

Hi all, Most (if not all) SMD components show their values on three numbers: the leftmost two are the significant digits while the last one means the number of zeros to be put to the right in order to read the full numeric value -- in picofarads in the case of capacitors. So, 226 really means...

    Thinking about getting a IIcx

The regular 8•24 card does provide 24-bit colour on my Hack IIx -- essentially a IIcx with more NuBus slots: at least with System 7(.1), so it should do fine on the IIcx. Anyway, only up to 640x480 -- it will go up to 1152x870 but in 8-bit colour. No experience with the 8•24GC, A/UX and very...

    My "hack" IIx is working!

@kite210: I'm terribly clumsy with woodworking... :-) @Trash80toHP_Mini: Thanks! That seems a nice idea. @bibilit: Merci beaucoup! Unfortunately, classic Macs are very hard to get in Spain... but we're living in a small world nowadays, aren't we? ;-) @LC_575: I'm using an Apple 8•24 card...

    SE/30 and System 7

As far as I know, the SE/30 should boot fine with systems up to 7.5.5, no enablers needed -- assuming you have enough RAM, or course. Can you check in another Mac whether the System Folder on your HD SC 20 is still blessed? I think some Macs which can't run 6.0.x (e.g. Quadra 700) are indeed...

    Mac SE/30 SCSI problem

Hi Trag, many thanks for your reply. This makes a lot of sense... I remember seeing some greenish stuff on the 53C80's pins :( (hmm... I think that pin is Vdd) Yes, it seems the easier way to do it. Thanks for the advice. Will be the first to be checked... After further experimentation...

    Mac SE/30 SCSI problem

Hi all, After washing and recapping my SE/30´s mobo, it now starts with a loud, clear "bong" -- no more SimasiMac! Here it is, connected via LocalTalk to my Quadra 700 (as AppleShare server): It is productive, as you can see :-) More pics (and video!) of the restoration at the flickr set...

    My "hack" IIx is working!

@ Scott: Yes, have an EtherNet card. It works perfectly in a Quadra 700, but becasue of the built-in port, it isn't needed there, so it would be much more useful on the IIx. @ Unknown_K: I don't know... maybe I could get a toast MacII some day, and put this mobo inside... or something...

    My "hack" IIx is working!

Hi all, As part of a deal, I got a Mac IIx mobo... after washing the board, I powered it from an old, vulgar ATX 150W PSU -- just the +5V, +12V and GND lines, didn't bother with the -12V line! First attempt, with the ROM SIMM but no RAM or disks... and the Chimes of Death came out from the...

Looking for Quadra 700 VRAM SIMM sockets

Hi all! One of the VRAM sockets of my Quadra 700 has a bent/broken pin... thus it wouldn't recognize the SIMM, disabling the other three good sockets also :-( The first two (it has currently 1 MiB VRAM) are working fine, but I'd like to get 24-bit colour... Does anyone know of a source for...

SE/30 Nice and clean now...but still loud :(

Hi again, Just recapped! Still have some issues to correct, though :( Anyway, in order to stay on-topic... I replaced the fan with the aforementioned one. I found the SE/30 schematics and found the fan is powered thru a 1/2 Watt, 4.7 ohm resistor -- that would dissipate less than 0.15 Watt...
