    Clocking the IIsi

Or Gauge series Clockometer ;) Nice work! I think I'm going to do the same with my IIsi -- alive thanks to you :D But I don't have a 50 MHz oscillator, only one of 64 MHz... well, I'll put that on the Quadra 700 and then use its 50 MHz part on the IIsi

Help! Drive cloning frustration...trying to re-drive Lombard

Could be an incompatible drive. I have read that the Lombard's disk controller (or was it the firmware?) has problems with some ATA-100 drives, whereas an ATA-66 or maybe ATA-133 would be fine: http://lowendmac.com/pb2/lombard-powerbook-g3.html

Soft ps mod for hard ps macs & apple II's

For the record, I think you're talking about race conditions. Back to the original question, I'm in the most busy fortnight of my job, so there's little time for hacking :'( but I'm afraid it would be very difficult to sense the shutdown procedure without some help, either software or...

The Definitive Guide to Connecting your SE/30

    1) That universal 7.5.5 is my one-size-fits-all system copied on almost every SCSI disk at home, from the LC to the 7600/G3... the SE/30 usually runs on 7.1 (with quite a few complements) leaving 7.5.5 for Drive Setup and web access. That machine is still pending optimization :b&w: 2) Don't...

    Memory steal!

Based on my experience, I have to recommend against MemoryTen (and its subsidiary WeLoveMacs). The price may look right, but their modules (at least what they sent me) are poorly made -- they were a tight fit on the Quadra 700 and simply impossible on other Macs until I filed them a bit 8-o...

    SE/30 Revival progress

Great job! Thanks for sharing this valuable resource. Just a few notes: •Have you tried using a common ATX-PSU cable extender for connecting a compact Mac to the mobo on the bench? It makes servicing them way more convenient! ;) •It doesn't apply to your testing, but the SE/30 actually...

    How to install OS 7.0.1

When I was joined to Apple Developer Connection I purchased the MacOS Anthology: a set of 8 DVDs with all systems 7 to 9 in every language (hmmm, am I violating the non-disclosure agreement with this post?) :-x But I use no floppies -- my USB & DVD to SCSI converter (aka Lombard PB G3)...

    Resurrecting a 5200 mobo

Well, the 5200/6200 do have several quirks, and they definitely aren't the best performers out there... but still they are a great improvement over the sluggish original CC ;) The Mystic upgrade should be almost as snappy as those 75 MHz crippled PPCs, and it's a much simpler plug-and-play...

    Memory steal!

Just checked my SIMMs with 511000 chips on them -- they're 1 MB indeed. So sorry! I understand the label as 9- chips (8 bit + parity, unused in Macs) of size -1000, to express one megabit per chip, of 70 ns access time. They will of course work fine on the SE/30, but giving 8 MB only. This...

    Memory steal!

Excuse me, but... aren't there 511000AJ70 type chips? If so, I'm afraid they're just 1 MB SIMMs :-/

The Definitive Guide to Connecting your SE/30

For those of you with spare time and bandwidth, here's a 11 min. video of my SE/30 browsing the internet: Sorry for the moiré :I I'm getting a WiFi connection shared from my sister's MacBook Pro, but works fine from a Linux laptop too. My SE/30 configuration is: 20 MiB RAM 540 MB HD...

    System Picker doesn't work

I assume you're waiting long enough for System Picker to find the System Folders -- it can take several minutes... Anyway, you can "bless" the new System Folder manually: 1) Open the desired System Folder on a window. 2) Take the System file out from it -- for instance, drag it on the...

    Anyone still use firewire drives?

I do use FireWire drives -- one (1 TB) is permanently attached to my main computer (MacMini Core2Duo), and also the scanner and an external video capture box (Canopus ADVC-110) Got some other FW external drives, including a 2.5" self-powered unit. I can use them on the 7500's runing 8.6 -- so...

Pivot mono + Pivot color card?

Who, me? The problem is that I don't have any cable between the card's pin header and an external connector... I'll try cutting a (long) female pin header and soldering the cables on the PCB-intended pins :-/ I was writing this on the SE/30 because the OS X machine collapsed... but strangely...

    SuperIIsiHack™ AKA SE/30's BANE . . .

Wow! Thanks for the link! ;) I'd like to ask a couple of things about it: 1) If one already has the GttMFH2e, is there any need for the first edition? 2) Would the Macintosh Family Hardware Reference complement it in some way, or does it become superfluous? Thanks a lot in advance!

    SE/30 soft power

YEAH!!! The Power Off INIT works great! 8-) It allows the standard shutdown command to toggle the PB2 line, as I needed for my soft power box -- works fine on both stock ROM and (ahem, ahem) upgraded clean ROM... thanks a BUNCH! ;) That makes much more sense, yes. Fortunately, the...

8500 logic in 7200 case possible?

AFAIK, the A/V daughterboard on the 8500 had video input and output connectors, while the 7500 had input only. Love that 7500. My first Mac, actually. Dad still uses it for music score editing (and playback!)

    Resurrecting a 5200 mobo

Uh-oh, that's bad news... would mean both of my 5200 mobos are dead xx( On the other hand, I have no PRAM battery. Maybe they need either the battery or the ADB power line? I'll try to build a makeshift PRAM battery connector with a pin header.

    IIVX and harddrive problems.

Some drives do not have a jumper for Termination Enable, but socketed resistor packs (typically three) which must be removed if termination is not needed (e.g. if the board is already terminated)
