AFAIK, the only difference between the IIfx PSU and the II/IIx is the fan speed regulation: automatically variable on the fx, while is fixed on the others. This means the IIfx PSU is somewhat quieter.
Connector etc is the same, I'm using a IIfx PSU in my IIx.

As far as I know, the Plus' PSU is integrated into the analog board. By inserting the plug real hard, you might have moved and/or flexed the board a bit, probably helping some bad connection. This is compatible with the fact that you had to slap the machine in order to get any video the first time.
By keeping the leads from the previously soldered battery, I was able to install SMD battery sockets (from DigiKey) on my Macintosh II. Ugly, but works:
It may depend on the particular adapter... I have a SCA 36GB Fujitsu which doesn't work at all with my "regular" 50-pin adapter, but it's fine with a "better", terminated adapter.

The SE/30 works fine with 2/3 chip SIMMs -- just checked.
Assuming 1 MByte size SIMMs, "regular" 8-chip modules use eight 1 Mbit DRAMs -- with another extra chip for parity (9 chip) modules, which simply goes unused in most Macs.
But those SIMMs with 2/3 chips use a couple 4 Mbit DRAMs (1 M x...

Back in 1998 I purchased a 604e / 233 MHz card for my 7500 -- it's still going strong and has been always rock solid.
Other than that (and the stock 601 @ 100 MHz) I've used 604/120, 604/132 and recently a tiny G3/450 card 8-)
The monitor sense codes were very well thought, IMHO. First a bunch (0-6) of fixed resolutions, and the detected code (7) in the absence of monitor did halt video out. Then came the extended codes, read off a different method... from what would be seen by older cards as "7" (i.e., no monitor)...
It depends on the individual LCD screen, and how it does the interpolation... but don't expect miracles at any resolution other than the nominal one. My Acer monitor is not very good at this, though :( For the 1600x1200 monitor, it depends too of the interpolating algorithms: a "nearest...
I got a cheap Acer X163W LCD monitor and it syncs fine with all Macs, up to 1280x1024 @ 75 Hz -- panel is 1366x768, thus is not very sharp at such resolution, though.
The only Mac mode I can't use with it is... the 60 Hz RGB 12" mode (512 x 384)
Those Ultra160/320 drives have to switch down to (Fast) SCSI-2 in order to work with our vintage Macs, for sure...
Besides all Ultra160 (and some Ultra320) drives supporting narrow (8-bit) transfers, some drives need to have that narrow mode enabled or forced via jumpers. IBM's DCHS drives (4.5...
SCSI drives up to 2 GB should work great. However, larger capacities aren't supported by all OS versions and machines, but you can always partition a big disk in several chunks just below 2 GB...
