DayStar Turbo 601 PPC in SE/30 progress?

I suppose this means that, in theory, one could try to use a ROM-inator II to get this to work? :O Not like I can do that, but perhaps someone in the world can?

    New Member, Old Mac SE

That depends... It could be a problem with either your logic board or with the hard drive. Just because a drive has power doesn't mean it'll send data. The easiest way to figure out the point of failure is to test the drive with another board or computer, or test another drive with your board...

Cool thing I saved from the trash

Hah, nice find. I kinda want a bag/case to carry a compact Mac in myself, but since I don't have such a case or bag already and they're more expensive than I'd like them to be, I might be consigned to making one myself... I dunno. Could be cool, making that sort of thing. :O

    Macintosh Color Classic

...I'm surprised I haven't already, to be honest. I'll do that! :O ...I suppose you could indeed say I lucked out. :p I lucked out in getting the deal, in the seller being willing to ship it, in the computer being (mostly) working, in the battery not having exploded, in the caps still...

    Macintosh Color Classic

I've lurked around here long enough to know about the capacitor problem :p I still need to learn how to solder/get around to shipping the board off. I have a spare SE/30 board that I can eventually test my recapping skills on after I get some practice, so that's nice. I'll ask for recapping...

    Macintosh Color Classic

Got this cute little computer on LetGo for around $150 shipped. Bad floppy inject, bad HDD (I was able to boot from it precisely once; I assume it's because the disk parked itself and now can't get un-stuck because I hear it spinning up and then spinning down), and very dusty internals... but...

IIsi PowerCache TwinSlot Adapter - Cloning Project

About how I may or may not be looking for a TwinSpark Adapter or equivalent (this does the job of "Split SE/30 PDS slot into IIci-cache and PDS Passthough", I think, anyway). :p I wish I understood schematics better than I do right now, but maybe if I stare at them hard enough, I'll...

IIsi PowerCache TwinSlot Adapter - Cloning Project

To come out of lurking - this is exactly the kind of thing I hope succeeds. Also hopefully, it'll cost less than Artmix's $249 TwinSpark adapter :p ...I might need to make a Trading Post post about it, but I'm not certain about it yet. Good luck developing the board  :beige:

    My SE/30's battery BLEW UP!

A better favor: IMO you should just yank your PRAM batteries out as soon as you can. From what I've read here, it's a scarily common problem. Think about it: Would you rather have a few preference files saved or a working mac? :beige:

Twiggy Mac Boots up - software found!

Right, I finally got around to making a Sleepless Developer icon. It took me a while, as I was putting it directly into ResEdit. Remember, coffee is no substitute for sleep. ;)

That's actually rather awesome. Then again, I'm a bit more curious about the software, as heretical as that sounds.

SE Hard Drive being stupid... and more.

Uh oh, I guess I'll need to send the board over to uniserver. :p Unless I learn to cap it myself, which seems unlikely as I've never touched a soldering iron in my life before... :o) Big question is: can it wait another week or two (or three, if things really don't work out)? Then again...

SE Hard Drive being stupid... and more.

Well, I got my case opening tool, and, by gently clapping my hands with the case in between it, I removed the back, disconnected the cables, and swapped out the SE's MoBo for the SE/30's MoBo. I upgraded the SE/30 from ~ 6 MB of ram to ~69 MB of ram (I had 4 16 MB SIMMS... that I ordered a year...

Twiggy Mac Boots up - software found!

Using the ResEdit palette, I came up with this coloring (in 2 different sizes) Based on this picture below http://www.erikjheels.com/Images/articles/2011-10-11-apple-steve-jobs-720x1296.jpg Should work with ResEdit or something. I really like these beta icons, they're new, fun, and more...

Twiggy Mac Boots up - software found!

Short of uploading the software online, pixel by pixel replication is the ONLY way to get these icons, and what interesting icons I think they are. If anyone can mad an OS8/OS9 style version of the Jobs icon or the Sleepless Developer icon, uh, I'd like to see it? Idk, I'd better make a color...

Twiggy Mac Boots up - software found!

Definitely better than that other talking manface. :O I might just have to fire up ResEdit now... :beige: I'd actually appreciate if someone were to make all of the scrapped icons from these documented builds, unless I get around to making them first, which, judging by the quickness of...

Twiggy Mac Boots up - software found!

Now if only we could get this System off the 'nets. I really want to see those "Steve Sez..." icons. Maybe I should add it in via ResEdit instead... |) Whaddaya think, instead of that weird flat manface with a speech bubble, I'll make it Steve instead! ... That might work. :p

SE Hard Drive being stupid... and more.

Ordered my Case Tool online today because a search at a few local stores turned out fruitless. I'm also planning on ordering a suitable HDD from... well, I don't know if they want their name to be announced, but the fact I'm saying this seems like it would be a decently large giveaway. Side...

SE Hard Drive being stupid... and more.

Ok, here's my situation. I have a nice looking, mostly functioning SE FDHD with a dead/dying (the drive itself partially works, but the drive refuses to mount) Hard Disk Drive - it (was) a 20 MB HDD; not very big at all. I also have an ugly SE/30. It has a gummy Floppy Drive and no Hard Drive...
