I need to reinstall Leopard on my iBook G4, however I have no dual-layer DVDs to burn my .dmg to. So, I need to boot from USB. I have heard that this has been done before through Open Firmware. How is this done? I might also need to install on my PMG5, so I'd like a method that works with that...
I don't think a dedicated Apple Hardware Test disc will work. Instead, you need the gray discs from that model of iBook G4. They have the hardware test on them as well as an OS installer. I was able to run the Apple Hardware Test from my gray discs with no trouble on my iBook G4.
Thanks everybody. I think I'll go with Tiger based on what you're saying. I'm ok with a little slowdown for Leopard features, however this big of a slowdown seems too big. Thanks!

I have the original iMac G4, 700MHz with a 15 inch screen. I'd like to start putting it to a lot more use, and that had me wondering about an OS. I have 2 options: 10.4, or 10.5 (unsupported). What do you think is best? I plan to do web browsing, YouTube (with PPC Media Center) music...
I have an original 700MHz iMac G4 (15 inch) I really like it, Tiger and TFF on it make a good combo for basic web browsing. Congrats on your find, it looks really nice!
