How to set up a bootable RAM disk on a Quadra with no SCSI devices?

I hate to be negative, but no.  Bootable RAM disks are indeed a thing, which I've used, and dozens of us here have used.  You are quite wrong here.

Is the 800/840 really that bad to work on?

The 650/800 has a couple of notable advantages over the 900 & 950, if you can live without the extra 3 Nubus slots (2 really, considering the 9x0 needs a video card).  They're somewhat faster, and use 72 pin RAM - far easier and cheaper to find, and larger in capacity, than 30 pin RAM.   LEM...

Looking at a 6100...is this really a correct video card?

As always, kan knows all, sees all. Just to clear up any confusion: There are four different risers for the 6100 PDS, and they're all incompatible (G3 exception as noted) PDS passthrough: for HPV and AV cards G3 CPU upgrade & riser: acts as a PDS passthrough if you get the right one [1]...

SE/30 + Asante Ethernet: close, but no cigar

Just for funsies, I dumped that link into the wayback machine and managed to download a few files.  If the one you're after doesn't work, try a different date (via the calendar bar at the top).

    DuoDock FPU

Huh, I never knew that.   That much I do recall - the 68882 is only compatible with 030 processors, so the 040 and 603e Duos can't use it. Which is a darn shame: the only way to get an FPU working with a 280/280c would be to replace the CPU :-/

    QuickTake 150

Have you considered setting up the Beige G3 as your server, for both LocalTalk and Ethernet/WiFI?  And I suppose if any machine needs to be left always-on, having one with ADB, mD8 serial, a floppy drive and SCSI might be advantageous.

MacIPpi - Surf the Internet on your old Macintosh with TCP/IP over LocalTalk

That's most kind of you, mactjaap.  PM sent and merry Christmas to you too :)   Well, that's my dream too - and I think a Pi with a serial connection is exactly that.

MacIPpi - Surf the Internet on your old Macintosh with TCP/IP over LocalTalk

You're welcome.  I plan to have a go at it myself as soon as I have a Pi or similar and the necessary adapters or a soldering iron in front of me. My point is mainly that the Localtalk to Ethernet adapters are now so hard to find that they really shouldn't be considered "normal" equipment that...

new case styles for Floppy Emu

Compare the styling on the Global Village Teleport Modem.  Maybe bring your grooves a bit further back from the front end, and in from the sides.  Or ... and I realise this is going to be tricky .... centre the display cutout widthwise, and have it only show the actual LCD area, and not the...

new case styles for Floppy Emu

There's something slightly off-putting about the asymmetry of the SD slot - you might want to make that more symmetrical about the top cut-out, and try to match the proportions to a real floppy slot a little more.
