Another old school Mac hits the net

Ahhh, iCab- Yes, now this post is coming via my LC475 running iCab 2.9.9b :) Certainly appears more modern and from the short play I've had with it, quicker thaNetscpe (although certainly not speedy ;-) ).lso think I prefer the way it renders pages. Anyway, the last Mac I owned before...

Another old school Mac hits the net

Hi, No real point to this post, other than the fact that its another old school Mac thats being used to post it :) I've got my newly acquired LC475 up and running and this is coming to you from Netscape Navigator 4.03 on top of System 7.5.5 and Open Transport 1.1.2. Defintely not a daily...

    MS Basic 2.0 Help

Thanks Tony, I'll have a play around with that. I'm starting to think (hope) that the syntax was fairly similar to other Basic's of the era (as you suggest). Cheers,

    MS Basic 2.0 Help

Hi, For some odd nostalgic reason I have started to play around with Microsoft basic 2.0 on my old (512k) Mac. I'm particularly interested in any capabilities it has to drive the serial ports for good old serial communications, however I dont have any reference materials that describe how...

    Macintosh BBS

I seem to remember that Hermes BBS was pretty popular back in the day - just did a google and it seems that there is a relatively recent Hermes II release that looks like it may still run on classic macs :) Might have to have a look myself :) http://www.hermesbbs.com/ Cheers,

128k Mac - What were apple thinking!

Well, after getting the old 128k I have into a state where I could use it, I've spent the last couple of nights going through some of my old floppies that have survived my travels. My thoughts are: 1. What an amazing little machine this really is 2. What were apple thinking only releasing it...

    Anyone know what this is?

Thanks for the info Mac128. Actually, now that I look at it more closely I see my board also has the 128k ROMs and what I assume is a 800k internal drive (its certainly not the old 400k internal I'm used to seeing) so its obviously gone through a major upgrade at some stage. Cheers!

120v Analog Board vs 230v Supply

Whoops, sorry about that - should have searched first! :) Thanks for the pointer tho - looks like this board will just be a parts donor. Cheers,

    Anyone know what this is?

Hi, I found the following interesting (to me anyway) little hack on the 128k motherboard of the US mac that I just blew up. My other 128k board doesnt have it - the board looks to have been added post-factory. I was just wondering what it was / does - looks like some kind of fix...

120v Analog Board vs 230v Supply

So living in a country that uses a 230v supply, I foolishly plugged in the new 128k Mac I purchased online (in my country) to try out and bang, 1 second later I thought "I wonder if this is a 120v machine". Sure enough it was a 120v, but the seller had neglected to mention that to me because he...

    128k Analog Board Repair

LOL, after all that C1 had already been replaced by a 4.7uF cap! Anyway, turned out to be a (fairly obvious) dry joint on one of the flyback pins. I didnt end up replacing anything, although there was some shrinkage of the plastic around some of the caps (but the caps themselves hadnt bubbled...

    128k Analog Board Repair

Thanks for that great advice! I also hadnt seen your Classic Mac Repair notes before (I'm assuming thats you who wrote them:) ), and although I havent read right through them yet, they look to be extremely detailed, easy to read and therefore extremely useful - so thanks! As far as my board...

    128k Analog Board Repair

Hi, I'm finally getting around to taking a look at my non-working analog board. I thought I'd start by simply replacing the bits recommended by Larry Pina in "Mac repair and upgrade secrets". Specifically I thought I'd go for the "heavy duty" upgrade. I have a couple of questions tho. 1. If I...

List of 128k Mac Compatible Software?

Hey Cool, Thanks for that - I personally think it would be useful to have such a list, I'm thinking about how best to go about starting one. I've posted a message over in the wiki project forum on the topic if anyone is interested in having some discussion around how it might be able to be done...

    Software in the Wiki

Hi, I posted a message over in Compact Mac asking if anyone knew of a list of software that was known to work on a 128k Mac. Today I had a quick look at the 68kmla wiki and noticed a software section. I've never really done anything in the wiki world before, but thought that the "software"...

List of 128k Mac Compatible Software?

Hi, I've done a quick google search that didnt show up too much, but I was wondering if anyone had ever compiled a list of software that is known to work on a standard 128k Mac. Cheers,

    Vintage Telnet Server?

Wow - transferring stuff from my classic to my PC via floppies is not fun... Anyway, I dug out my original WWIV BBS Disks and they are still readable! I used DiskCopy to create images of them and then transfered them via floppy to my PC. If anyones interested they can download them from the...
