I emailed Tim Cook this afternoon, telling him what a fantastic resource it is for us vintage enthusiasts. I asked him to please reconsider shutting down the archive, and I encourage everyone to send an email requesting the same.
Any sound that comes out of it is very distorted, even at low volumes.
Grabbed a pair of earbuds, sound is fine through them. I'll link a video of the sound quality. This is at 50% system volume.
And I see that, now that I've taken off the speaker cover* :)

I recently acquired a very good condition (cosmetically) 1400c/166 from eBay, and have been playing with it a bit.
