Can you post a link to the SSD? What size/brand? I'd be tempted to put it in a Optical Bay Caddy in my MacBook to eek out a bit more speed/performance.
Physically, they will work, but the Mac will only "see" 512MB on each. I would have liked to have replaced the 3x512MB SIMMs in my QS2002, but 1.5GB is as much RAM as my ol' work horse can handle.
I found myself in the same boat with a 2008 MacBook I salvaged - you can get a compatible battery for around $30ish (off eBay) delivered if you don't want to buy an original from Apple.
I'll have a look in "Chilton's guide to Macintosh repair and maintenance" and email you the pages if it is helpful.
Also, have a look at http://www.vintagemacworld.com/400kflop.html
Just opened a box of goodies I trans-shipped from the USA to myself, here in Sydney.
I was expecting the HD20, and hopefully it is as advertised "WORKING" - I'll just have to get the 512K setup and try it out after I inspect and clean it.
Also there was a 198x Apple Carry Bag, and the...
Depending on your viewing angle and lighting, can you see any faint image on the iMac's LCD screen? It could be that back-light for the screen that is either disconnected or otherwise not connected to our shared reality.
I recently did some work on an iMac-G4@800 I picked up. When I was putting the drive caddy back in place, I hadn't pushed the power Molex connecter in firmly all the way (very tight fit). Opened it up and redid the connecters, and all is good. Those PATA/SATA adapters are finicky, make sure...
2MB I believe, was the "unformatted" capacity of the 1.44MB. So 2MB is a totally useless value, as opposed to the mearly annoying "metric" vs binary HDD sizes.
Blast you iPhone! I meant to type "reset" not "rest"
As to how, power down, pop out battery, press and hold power switch for 5 seconds, release, load battery, power up, and do stuff.
Do you have access to external Firewire CD/DVD drive?
Another way is how I installed 10.4 on my Cube that only had a CD-drive. I put the 10.4 install DVD in my iBook and connected it to the Cube with a firewire cable and booted the iBook into Target Mode. Booted the Cube holding down the...
Good pickup Bunsen!
Just refurbed a white 2008 MacBook last weekend. 4GB of RAM on its way (eBay $25) from a US dealer. New battery to replaces the dead one (eBay $32). 750GB 7200rpm HDD that I had put in my AcerAspire HackBook Nano was transferred. Every now and again it can't detect the...
Yes, the QS2002 was the first PowerMac to support large drives, not the MDD as many sites state, and as far as I know the iMacs-G4s were big drive friendly as well.
Was it a stock HDD? Did you repartition the drive in APM and format as HFS+? Insert the install CD/DVD, boot holding down the "C" key, from the Tools/Utilities menu, select DriveUtility and if the new HDD is listed, ensure the partition type is APM, and if not repartition the drive, and click...
I've worked on several iMac-G3 machines, and as long as all the screws are removed, I've never had a problem removing the shell. Some machines will require a little more gentle force, and be careful of cables, especially the IDE cables to the CD-ROM and HDD in the tray area at the bottom of the...
Glad your iBook is back in action. My iBook is the only "new" (this century) Apple laptop that I have sentimental attachment too. All my other later Powerbook/MacBook(Pro) notebooks have come, and gone. The iBook bridged me back to Apple machines from Windows based machines for video editing...
Yes, sounds like the HDD to me. I replaced the HDD in my old G3-500 iBook (original SnowBook) and yes, it was "challenging". You should still consider it though, but be prepared to almost completely strip down your iBook.
Not knowing which model you've got, have a look at this link at iFixit...
