I'll try that when I get home. Getting to the grey screen with the blinking "?" though should get me going but maybe my install media is actually messed... I'll be trying a DVD version tonight. It sat there trying to read the CD for 5 minutes before I turned it off.
Some progress.... Booted back into linux and ran my favorite command "shred /dev/hda" so now the hard drive is completely blank. Boots to a grey screen with a blinking question mark now. Still won't boot off all these OSX cds though.
So I'm wanting to go back to OSX from linux on my G4 Mini but it refuses to accept boot media. I'm attempting to use a 10.4 CD (verified, should work) but despite using the "C" key, it still goes to my linux bootloader. I also cannot get into open firmware or zap the PRAM... I'm using the same...
Throw it at someone you don't like. That's about the only use you'll get out of it unless you have the server with the proper interface that used to run it. If it was network based with TCP/IP then no problem, but it sounds like the old WYSE terminals we had at radioshack back in the day which...
When I ran preterhuman.net from my house, it was on a compaq proliant 5500 server. This was run in my bedroom. I counted 14 high powered fans in it. Kid you not it resembled a jet engine when being powered on.
There were virtually no markings that seemed to help me track it down. Only sure identification on the board was the Supermac logo. Ended up finding some references in a few places on google about the card. I'll snap a pic this weekend when I put the system back together. My guess is it also...
I tried messing around with OpenStep and Rhapsody x86 on an older Pentium once. There's a few neat older systems you can try on that. Almost no point to doing anything Windows related.
My first Mac had 7.1 but I quite enjoyed the 7.5 upgrade, which I got for free from Apple using the old "my new system didn't come with install disks" trick.
...and here's what I found
-two Apple II clone systems
-two CP/M cards for Apple II
-alchemy 200mhz board (future color classic upgrade i think)
-tons of hard drives from my 68k days
-sealed windows 3.1
Copying all my old software over to the quadra and then going to put it into my online...
Ah bugger, ROM does not appear to be removable from what I've been reading. Not willing to take a soldering iron to the board... OS 8 it is then I guess.
Took a peek at the back of my Color Classic and I see what looks like a composite video port in what I think is the expansion slot. The colored ring is a darkish orange. I don't have anything to plug into it to help figure this out so I figure I'd ask before I go ripping it apart this weekend...
I'll never have a use for the features on that machine. I only do audio work and I've got a G3 tower with a Korg pro audio card.
I'm still going to try A/UX. I spent a larger chunk of my youth ripping apart Mac hardware and software, and have some creative ways of making things work. If it does...
I'll try anyway. I've butchered a few 040 systems in the past getting A/UX to boot properly. My main issue was 68LC040s that I upgraded to 68040s giving a black screen during the A/UX boot. Others I could resolve with system enablers. So if I don't see it crap out during the installer boot...
