Hah, no idea I had anything like that. Yeah I've actually got the original drive with all the files here at my place so I could put it in one of my local servers to check it out. I was thinking OSX for a couple specific reasons, one of which was iPhone development.
According to my research, the G4 Mini requires 10.4. At this point I'm not sure if I'll bother with that or just get linux back on there. Seems that whichever method I choose I'll have to rip the case apart and pull the HD. I tried hooking the system up to my G3 using firewire but all that...
I can guarantee I will be back online should the DC shutdown, but I may have to spring for a dedicated server somewhere remote and have to upload the entire archive myself. I just don't want to have the DC close and not be able to get my colo gear out, because if that happens I'm going to drive...
OK... So I had planned to take the hard drive back to the datacenter today but this morning I discovered that one or more of the investors for the datacenter are petitioning the courts to begin bankrupcy proceedings. At this time I've decided to hold off putting the drive back in as it contains...
The good news:
-rw-r--r-- 1 netfreak netfreak 116617937538 2009-08-01 04:56 preterhuman_downloads.tar.gz
The bad news:
I can't take the drive back to the datacenter until staff are back there tuesday so the server will have no files for a few days.
I thought about doing that but since I have to make the archive at my house onto my home file server, I'd have no way to get it back to the datacenter as the server file drive is quite full. Some weird hardware problem prevents more than one USB hard drive to be plugged into the server, and the...
Just a heads up files on my server will be offline for a while today as I do this at my house:
nfs:/mnt/usb_hd/elitep/server# tar czf /nfs/drive4/preterhuman_downloads.tar.gz downloads
If it finishes before the datacenter staff leave, then I'll have it all back online. Otherwise it'll be...
No problem. The whole reason I started running the server was for text files and getting all the rare and old software just sort of happened from running the Hotline server all these years.
yep, i might get the mirroring set up even sooner than I thought. I gotta skip a day of work pretty soon for some appointments so I'd have time to grab the hard drive from the datacenter, mirror it at home, then return it (long story, can't do the mirror at the datacenter).
in regards to that...
The speed of the Hotline/KDX is impacted by the surges of web traffic my server gets. I'm constantly hitting my maximum bandwidth as I am on a budget connection with a Cogent upstream. Since I make little to no money running it, I can't afford the connection it really needs.
And no, it is not...
Everything I've read says they wont. Only the intel ones. I'll just snag a firewire cable this weekend and try disk mode on my G3 if I can get THAT to boot OSX......
