So I had to rip every box out of my house storage area to find one freakin power cable for my digital cable box and I ended up finding a few things I forgot I owned:
-Commodore 64C in original box with manual and disks, looks brand new
-boxed kids software disks for Atari ST
-Treo 270 PDA...
I'm betting this is a no go since I haven't been able to find anything useful on google... Anything I can do to get a piece of software which is apparently Intel only (didn't error out during install, only when I try to run) to run on a G4?
I sorted some of the uploads the other day into the proper directories of the downloads area but there is just way too much stuff there. I don't even know what most of it is.
I'm fairly sure it was a farallon card, but I've put the machine back in storage as I needed the space for the new G4 I'm toying with. I'll mess with it again some other time.
Trust me. There is no such thing as a computer recycler in this city. Sometimes the city holds a dump usually once a year for old computers. Nobody is allowed to go through the stuff.
Anyway I picked up the system. Came with a standard Rage 128 16mb vga/dvi video card. Also had an ATI tv tuner...
Tried that once, few days worth of annoying ads brought in maybe a dollar. I always wanted that site run only on donations anyway. I know I'll never break even but it is such a low cost to me anyway.
I've got the ethertalk extension along with all the usual appletalk stuff. Open Transport installed as well.
As for the network actually working, no idea as the system is pretty bare. The dongle piece is lit up though and I see activity if I try pinging it.
So I fired up my old color classic and put a network card in it. The machine detects it and I was able to set the TCP/IP settings to ethernet and drop my IP details in. Problem is, I can't switch the appletalk connection over to ethernet instead of the serial port. When I select ethernet, it...
Around 9 years ago when I started the site, I was also going to run a cluster of older machines with Linux. I still wouldn't mind building some sort of cluster just to see how much CPU power I could combine but space and cash are holding me back.
I happened to browse the local classifieds but rarely do since nothing cheap is ever there, and came across someone selling G4/450 towers for $20 a pop. No ram or HD, but I've got lots of stuff that should work. Going tonight to pick one up. This will replace my G3/400 tower.
Yeah I don't mind if they stay powered on... I leave my main PC speakers on all the time since turning them off means moving the volume control and I hate having to find the prime volume over and over.
