Never mind, I went in there and fixed it. The little door had slipped off its assembly, so I reconnected it and now I can open and shut the door firmly.
When I had the drive out and open I accidentally slid back the thing that I assume controls the head, but it seems like it is meant to slide...
Hey guys -- The Apple IIc I got today has a loose floppy drive door. In other words, it doesn't lock in either the open or closed position. I haven't received my IIc monitor yet, so I can't actually try using it. Am I going to have a problem with the machine reading disks if the door is loose?
So, oddly, I have both (M0106 and M0131) and they both will boot the machine. I know for a fact the motherboard only has 128k of RAM based on the "About" thing under the apple menu). I have attached a picture of the motherboard -- the ROMs haven't been upgraded have they? I don't know what...
The external disk doesn't eject (I just do it manually when I shut it down). Don't know if the internal one will once I get one in there. So do I just restart it and shut it down once it chimes?
Oh well, I will try to get a replacement internal 400k drive.
The machine seems to work ok with an external 800k drive (in that it will read 400k disks and boot off it). From what i have read, though, it cannot write to disks.
Because I had to remove the internal 400k drive, I am using a 128k Mac with an external drive with the original system disk that came with the machine. When I go to shut down, it doesn't give me the prompt saying it is safe to switch off the machine. Instead, the system just restarts. Does...
Interesting, I looked up the Serial Number under the screen, and it does list the Model as M0001W. However, the motherboard is, in fact, a 128k and the back plate says it is Model M0001. Odd.
I am also confused by the serial number on the motherboard. It starts with "LB." None of the websites I have gone to has been able to decode the number. I thought the letters at the beginning said where the machine was made, and I am not familiar with where "LB" machines came from...
GREAT idea. I am going to go do that right now. I am trying to find a way to find a replacement, working internal 400k drive for this guy. The external drives work, but I can only plug one of them in at a time at all! I guess I will go use my Mac Plus to make these disks. If I do this on a...
Ah gotcha. So in order to *boot* from the HD20 on a 128k Mac I need to mess with the ROMs? But I can use it as an external (non-bootable) drive if the HD INIT file referenced on this page is in the system folder of the boot disk: http://www.mac512.com/macwebpages/hd20.htm ?
I don't think I...
Hey there,
I currently have an HD20 with 6.0.8 installed. If I wanted to get this to work with a 128k Mac (as a startup disk) I am assuming I have to move it down to System 4 or something. Is it as simple as say, booting up the 128k Mac using a floppy, turning on the HD, erasing the HD's...
Today was an EPIC day for me and Craigslist.
First, I responded to a Craigslist ad advertising a "1985 Mac 512." for $45. Comes with the Apple carrying bag, keyboard, mouse, and software. I go and buy it. Get it home. Its an original 128k Mac. He assumed it was a 512k mac because he got it...
I am hoping I may have a bead on a special (and super affordable) 128k. I will know for sure this weekend. Fingers crossed.
I feel bad for keeping my second Mac Plus in the closet since it is in great physical shape and works perfectly. I am keeping it and a third Mac Plus motherboard as...
It seems I have started to have enough Apple stuff to warrant my own thread!
My current collection consists of:
(1) Macintosh Portable 5120 (which Uniserver, Techknight, and Canby have been instrumental in helping me bring back to life)
(2) Two Macintosh Pluses
(3) Powerbook 180
(4)...
Are the 180 screens the same? I recently acquired a 180 that is in amazing condition and works perfectly (with some slight tunneling on the screen after an hour/hour and a half or so). Is there some kind of preventative maintenance I should be doing on this guy?
The wood keyboard case is an overlay.
Its not clear in the picture, but the wood case has vents on the sides and on the top that match the vents in the machine. When I go back I will take a better picture of the sides and back of the machine.
There is also a matching wood panel to cover the...
