Lonnie is ok, it has everything I need, yes been looking for more broken Macs. I had the original iMac Bondi Blue, which I though I had stored under my house but can't find it anywhere, raised on Apple II's and remember them being tossed out at school , I have my old Floppies and the disk...

Bit of an update; Replaced the caps on the logic board, then had no sound at all, realised I had lifted a pad under one the caps when desoldering, did a trace to the sound chip and now working great! (ugly but effective) I twisted the last 4 caps and it was much cleaner and easier and will be...

Thanks for the reply joshc, Voltage is steady only changes with different things plugged in but doesn't fluctuate so thats ok and it's .5 (will get to LB and replace caps) So you can lube a fan, any directions on how to do this? Where is the headphone jack on a Mac Classic ??

Reassembled the keyboard, looks pretty good. Still waiting on parts to get to the bottom of the voltage problem, would it be possible that the SCSI HD is drawing the voltage down ?

Yes I started it with the LB/ and SCSI removed and it started at a steady 4.85 volts so recapping the logic board will be next, as well as the optocoupler , but in the mean time whilst waiting it was time to pull some caps...no not the caps I should be replacing on the LB but the keyboard, this...

Turned it on again this afternoon and now only registering 4.07 volts, sort of slowly increasing, as I typed went up tp 4.22, so when it is on for a while the voltage increases, 4.30 now and picture is getting more stable.

Thought so thank you, waiting on a optocoupler to see if that fixes the voltage, and also try the ohm pot ( ordered a new one of those as well)

Ok was a bit frustrated over this as going from the chequerboard to the horizontal line seemed a step backwards, so spent countless hours reading numerous threads to try a find something, besides ordering a optocoupler, I decided to go over the board again and trace back from the where the yoke...

Bit of an update, I received all the caps that are recommended plus all the others for the AB, so did the recommended ones first, ended up with the wobbly checkerboard I was happy to get this point. At this point measured the 5 volt rail and 12 volt and was only getting 4.04 and 10.04, so...

Thanks would magic eraser be too harsh on the case? and yes I have the caps ordered for the LB, are you able to tell me the part number for the optocoupler please. I don't have one of them is it CNY75GB. Also another for not retro brighting, so be it ( I'm glad as I really didn't want to go...

Thanks I will wash it first and I actually don't mind a bit of patina, so might take your advice on leaving its at that :) the retro brighting looks to be a bit of a pain as well, the main thing is to get it running.

And the internals, the AB looks the worse, the caps on the LB are intact and the board actually looks ok, the original battery was still in there with no leakage So just waiting on caps for both boards will replace all the AB first and see how that goes.
