What to do with a NUBUS DSP Card? (besides Photoshop)

Yes and there's the rub. To use them for anything else, you need the software to interface with them and the most common software that does that was written for Photoshop filters. They're not much good for anything else if you can't find the software that use them.

What to do with a NUBUS DSP Card? (besides Photoshop)

With the correct software installed they will speed up Photoshop, specifically in opening, saving, changing the file format and compressing files within photoshop. Back in the day these were being made and used, Photoshop was horribly slow when manipulating, opening and saving large high...

    Visioneer PaperPort Vx

I have one of those and yes, it works via a serial connection. Not sure why you're asking questions about SCSI when it works via serial. I'm also quite confused by your post, you talk about having the drivers installed, yet don't have the PaperPort hooked up. It sounds to me like you've loaded...

    Another Conquest

I may be able to help you with that as I have some spare blue zip covers for the Blue and White G3. The internal zip is an ATAPI if my recollection serves me correctly. Buzz me a pm if you're interested. Cheers!

    PowerBooks & iBooks

Nice haul! But the PowerPC G3 laptop is a PDQ, not a Wallstreet, if the clockspeed is 300Mhz as the Wallstreet models only came with 233, 250, 292Mhz processors. I still have my PowerPC G3 Lombard/Bronze Keyboard 333MHz I've had virtually from new (I'm the second owner and bought it second...

Installing Classic OS 9 apps under OSX 10.4

Hey Cory thanks for your thoughts on this. I do agree with what you're saying here and I did seriously consider getting an Apple Powerbook G4 Titanium 1.0Ghz, which is the the last G4 Powerbook that can boot natively into OS 9.0 as you mentioned in your post. The problem with that (and the...

Installing Classic OS 9 apps under OSX 10.4

Thanks for all your thoughts and suggestions. I never really thought much about the formatting on the external USB drive, but it could certainly be the cause if it wasn't formatted as a HFS volume. Fortunately I have a USB to SCSI converter which I could use to hook up an external SCSI drive...

Installing Classic OS 9 apps under OSX 10.4

From memory the files were copied over from an external USB Hard Drive. Prior to that they were on an Apple Powermac G4 MDD 1.25 Ghz and some came over from a Power Macintosh 9600. Cheers!

Installing Classic OS 9 apps under OSX 10.4

Trash I really do need to find and answer to this at some point because I need to dispose of all my machines (moving house can't take them with me) that will boot into OS 9, as I have a fair amount of old legacy software I want to continue using. My initial plan was to run an Apple G4...

Installing Classic OS 9 apps under OSX 10.4

Hey guys I ran across a problem when copying OS 9 applications across to run in classic mode under OSX 10.4 in the sense that the system simply wouldn't recognise either the documents of the Applications. They were just seen as 'generic' files. Even when I gave the documents the correct...

    System 7 Install Versions

One looks to be a (as you mentioned) a full retail version of System 7.x, the other looks like an upgrade version of System 7.x. One is obviously a wipe the disk and install a fresh new version, one is an upgrade from a previous operating system. The reality is and was, that any version of...

Getting files onto old compact Macs

I wasn't really thinking about the floppy drive to be honest, but that machine does have a serial port and ethernet, so could act as his LocalTalk to Ethernet bridge machine, if that's the route he wants to take. Cheers!

Getting files onto old compact Macs

Well if you've already got a G3 Lombard, bronze keyboard - there's your answer! Looks like you may not have to buy anything - always good! Cheers!

Getting files onto old compact Macs

I think the Powerbook 520 had onboard ethernet and a serial printer port. Another way might be to find a Powerbook with a serial port and a PC Card slot where you can add an ethernet card.

Getting files onto old compact Macs

It all depends on what long term solution you want to implement and how much you want to spend. All the options you suggest would work but the most elegant solution I think is to put in a Apple LocalTalk to Ethernet converter/bridge onto one of the older Macs and hook the rest up via LocalTalk...

System Saver questions I thought might help others

Try doing a search on Kensington System Saver, that might give you more results. It sounds like the first System Saver was produced in 1981 when the company was founded - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kensington_Computer_Products_Group Cheers!

Connecting Mac OS 9 To Shared Ethernet.

Well switching AppleTalk on and off won't make much difference seeing as the Pismo is talking to the G3 via IP and not AppleTalk to access the internet, all you need to make sure is that you're connecting via ethernet in TCP/IP control panel which you've done. That's basically told the Pismo to...

    Surface Mount Capacitors

I'm considering redoing the capacitors on my Mac IIci and Mac II boards which stubbornly refuse to boot regardless of what I do them. I've looked at both boards and noted the locations and sizes of each of the capacitors that will need replacing. What replacement for the 3 x 470uf and 1 x...

Software that can read QuickTake 150 files

Load up the original QuickTake 150 software onto the laptop and convert them using that into .jpeg, .pcx, .bmp, or .pict. The QuickTake 150 will only save pictures in the QuickTake format, but once they're moved to a hard disk via a serial connection you should be able to convert them using the...
