Really? It didn't work for me when I tried it last. I think it complained about not enough memory or something (I have 4MB in it). I'd have to try it again and see what the error was.
I don't mind making disks where I have to, but the more things I can put on the HDD the better.
I can't really find a pattern. The release year helps (most game past 1989 or so supported hard drives), but beyond that it's hit and miss. I'm guessing that most of the 'only plays from disk' games are because it's hard coded to read from the disk drive and the games that don't mind being on...
Ok it works, I guess I just needed to wait longer. I don't see a way to disable it in the memory control panel (I'm using 9.2)
EDIT: Ah, I had to hold down Option and Command to get the option to show up. Weird.
I have a Beige G3 tower that I decided to max out the memory in (768 MB) just because I could and the memory was cheap. However now I'm finding that the first time I turn it on, the system will hang with a gray screen when it begins to load the OS. If I reboot it will work just fine (all...
Is there a good way to know which games can be installed on a hard drive and which need to be run from original disks? I know after a certain year most games became hard drive installable, but before that it seems to be hit and miss. Something like Deja Vu (1985) runs just fine off the hard...
I have a Power Mac G3 Beige Tower running OS 9.1 and I'm wondering if there's an easy way to transfer files from my PC running either Win 7 or Linux (whichever works better for this). The G3 has ethernet so I'm assuming I can do this over my network somehow, but I'm not sure how. I also have a...
I just reinstalled System 6.0.8 on my Mac Classic and everything seems to be working just fine, but when I try to read a CD (with all my games on it) I get the message "Please unlock the disk "Games" and try again. The desktop file couldn't be created.". Any idea what could be causing this...
Yeah I was talking about those batches of bad capacitors that found there way into a lot of different computers. I think that started in the mid-late 90's though.
I should get these caps replaced eventually though.
Ok I can try that tonight. It's been a while since I've opened up the old Mac, are the pot locations obvious or is there a picture I can look at? What are those pots for?
BTW here's a bigger version of that picture: http://www.atariprotos.com/temp/Mac.jpg
I fired it up again and got some more info. In addition to the occasional 'wobble' (which seems to happen when there's a lot of hard drive activity or when windows or apps are opened) there are two very distinct 'interference lines' go across the top (right above the HD icon) and bottom...
